For almost all the jobs listed either phone interviews or on campus interviews will be started next week. Expect the positions to be filled by end of June. From what I have heard from guys who have actually been talking to the AD's there should be some nice surprises in the new hires

Is former UCLA Coach Bob Larson meddling again!
Larson made it a point in telling the new men's coach in the summer of 2009, who Mike M. could hire or the alum's money would be cut off to supplement the program's needs.

"Vahrenkamp’s goal is to build on the success of Queens’ distance program stating; “Now we will look to developing all of the other events and building a full team that can compete at the conference, regional and national level.”
Great idea.... except that Queens is moving to the SAC that doesn't sponsor track as a conference sport. Hope those vaulters can run cross country!

Curcio appears to have found the fountain of youth...Knew he couldn't get that job! huh?
Curcio pulled his name for that job immediately after the interview and again told them he wasn't interested when they came back to him asking him to reconsider it. It was his job to lose if he wanted it, but why would he have. If you don't know the facts then don't comment on a job.
well I know this. I have 14 years + experience at Division II 2 more in D III have had 2 teams to NCAA XC, Nationally ranked teams and over 20 NCAA Appearances with individuals in the last 10 years, All Americans in several event groups besides distance and Level Two and a Masters and I did not get an acknowledgement of any kind. So go figure.
To be clear I was referring to the Queens job and I my experience is as Head Coach. And I am not complaining just a statement that we never do know what these schools are looking for.
Any word on the Dartmouth or Cornell positions?

Ok look, I will try and help everyone out who likes to get on this board and whine about not getting a call about a job they applied for. You have to do more than apply. You have to have inside connection or you need to call and talk to the AD or you need to have someone call the AD on your behalf.i have work my way up from high school coach to volunteer college coach to GA to small division 1 coach and now to coach in at a major Division 1 program. Every step of the way I made connections and talked to everyone I could to continue to move up. There is no way you can just send in a resume and have anyone notice. On paper every coach in the country is great at making themselves seem like the greatest, so at the end of the day you have to do something else to make your name standout to the people doing the hiring.
Saw an opening for Marietta College (D3) looking for a jumps coach. What happened to the the previous coach, Ciolek? He had some really great performances the past couple years.
And in reference to the above poster about making connections, you are exactly right. You will pretty much never get a call back if you don't have someone put a good word in for you or you know someone involved in the process. That's how it is in the coaching business and it's not much different in other lines of work as well. The old saying is true, "It's not what you know, it's who you know."
Now that NCAAs are over expect the job market to get crazy this summer!!!!

Purdue, Ohio State, and North Carolina should be moving along in their hiring process. It is not likely that internal candidates will be named. So, as all three seem to be going outside for their hiring, plus fill a staff. It should start the movement.
Olympic years tradidionally see a lot of coaching changes, not sure why. But that has been the case in the past.
So you can be doubtful. But it should be starting this week. Otherwise, they won't get anything done until mid-late July.
How about Ole Miss?
I live in Columbus and the feeling around here is that Ed Bethea is/has done a great job and should be given the job full time. He's proven to be a fantasitc recruiter and if he can bring in a solid distance coach, OSU could win some B1G titles.

Unfortunately, Gene Smith doesn't care what the feeling you or Columbus have about Beathea.
There will actually be 2-3 waves of changes as the dominoes fall all summer and possibly into the fall.
I'm anxious to catch up on the scuttle at the Trials
How much does the 7-1 date and 2013 class recruiting season play into these decisions? Take a look at a program like UNC who has a much leaner 2012 class of signees (in comparison to 2010 & 11 classes), so they can't afford another light year. Additionally, apparently the admin has targeted a high profile sprint coach from the West coast to come in and run the program, but the distance people aren't too happy with that idea and are pushing back. I would think that they could face a mass exodus of distance talent if they go in that direction.
I wouldn't worry to much about the tar heel distance runners. UNC should be a top 10 team. The distance runners they have - particularly on the men's side - are not at a level to contribute to that.
Rob Johnson will come in, clean house, and the university will be better off for it.
Was Mr. Gene Smith not the Athletic Director at Arizona State University some time ago? Wasn't Darryl Anderson the sprints coach for the Sun Devils when they were highly successful and fighting for NCAA Championships? What place was Ohio State men's team in the Big 10 Championships this year?Does Gene Smith like 3,4,5th place finishes? Why can the Ohio State women's teams win Big 10 titles despite the head coaching being bashed all of the time on this website?
