Ohio St. better re-think the Harvey Glance thing. Do they have a clue what he did to the Alabama program.

He dresses well. Does that make a good coach?!
Agreed... It smells like Russ Rogers redux. Just about any coach in the MAC would be better suited for OSU than Harvey.

Right......Ohio State would really know the difference between Harvey Glance (Olympian, blah, blah, blah) and Dennis Mitchell or Bill Lawson, or whomever. This is the way jobs are done. Was Robert Gary (and wifey) REALLY the best fit for Furman? It is what AD's THINK the folks they hire know. Honestly, there are some DII and DIII coaches in Ohio who are better suited than Glance, but they will never stand a chance at the job. This is just the way business is done whether we like it or not. Big time schools, or AD's with big-time thoughts will always hire folks who may be less qualified but have a name.
If you want to coach bad enough, you take what you can get until you get a chance to move up. Been there, done that.
any word on Ole Miss
Wow, thanks for stating the obvious. But, wait, how in the hell did a former MAC head coach get to get head CC coach at Texas A & M? Or explain to my clueless self how Orin Richburg got to be head Track coach at the University of Washington from Kent. Where did Vin Lannana coach before he went to Stanford? Oh yeah, that juggernaut Dartmouth and CW Post before that. Hang with me, cuz it's gonna get really freaky as we talk about Pat Henry going from a Junior Freakin College to LSU. That aint supposed to happen.
Class dismissed
I think you missed his point completely.
Very good point. What God has for you is for you. Also outside of all the budget and salary talks, if you want to coach and develop kids and love the sport most of us will take a good job if the situation is workable. Let's stop be ing stupid and say we will only take a job if the school will pay to travel all across the USA. If you have a great facility and can host a meet you don't have to travel all over.
What 'great facility' does Ohio State have?
No, I got it that AD's aren't all that hip to track and field and will all too often go on big name recognition. If Mitchell and Lawson really wanted to make a big run at TOSU, I'm certain they could drop enough names to make a legit run. It will be interesting to learn who the actual candidate pool Gene Smith would give serious consideration to hiring.... that is if he isn't fired himself soon.
Sounds like you know what happened at Alabama. Alabama had a very good Men and Women's program all through the 80's and early 90's, but begin to drop off in the late 90's, then became non-existent. Maybe things can get turned around now with a new coaching staff.
Ever been to Jesse Owens? Thats a pretty darn nice facility.
Darryl "Cleveland" Anderson is the guy for OSU.

ECU distance asst. just opened up. Nice area...
Darryl would be great, but I'm not sure he would necessarily do any better than Ed Bethea. No knock on Darryl as the John Adams alum would be stellar, but I think Ed is doing a pretty good job in the midst of a chaotic situation.

Boy, some people live in the clouds.
Wendel McCraven would never have gotten to Texas A&M straight from Kent State. He came from Illinois where he was an assistant, and he was not the first person offered the job. But he has done a very, very good job. Orin Richburg got from Kent State to Washington because............minority hire. Vin Lananna had his team in the NCAA's every year at Dartmouth and was a great hire for Stanford. Pat Henry did not go from a small potatoes junior college to head coach at LSU. Check on that.
So you have proved my point. Unless there is some connection, or some reason (same academic prestige, minority hire, inside friends) AD's don't know the difference between Candidate A and Candidate B. Recently an administrator from a BCS conference called to inquire if I knew of candidates for their opening. Trust me, this administrator who is probably going to hire knew nothing of what they were looking for.
Coach Bethea is has done a fantastic job as far as I can tell. The OSU sprinters/hurdlers have had a great year, and a very strong recruiting class is coming in next year. The team, in all event areas, has really performed well since Bethea took over as interim HC. Not sure if OSU would consider handing him the reigns, but doesn't seem like it would be a bad move - I'm certainly pulling for him unless OSU hires a stud. If they go the distance HC route, then I would hope that coach would keep on Bethea (and Mannon for that matter).
Anderson seems like he could be a good hire, but it seems like Bethea has done an equal, if not better, job lately. Plus, TCU's lack of any distance program makes me nervous if he were to take over.
On a completely different note, both coaches at Trinity (TX) have resigned. The T&F coach, Dave Svoboda, who had a successful career, left to follow his wife to a job in New Orleans. Their release didn't say anything about why Jenny Breuer, the head cross country coach, left. The USTFCCCA web site currently has the replacement job listed two ways--head coach for everything, and head coach for XC plus head coach for track.
Anyone know anything about this one?
They have done MORE lately than they did before lately.
