Can all the Vibram lovers on here please post a list of the elite runners who wear them....chirp, chirp...that's what I thought.
She should try race walking.
since spikes have minimal cushioning and heels, there is no reason for a minimalist not to race in them. and what an advantage after training in vibrams, which eliminate the kind of grip that you get from bare feet. she is one of the footlocker qualifiers most likely to improve a lot in college.
They all could improve their form. And they all look like they went out too fast and are hanging in there. It is an experience thing. HS, remember? Learning to pace yourself is a very and inversely proportional to age.

She's cute, but her form is atrocious. Go to 2:30 of this video for her kick. If she stopped twisting, and got one iota of knee lift, God only knows how many more places she would have gained at Footlocker.

this girl is silly for running in five fingered shoes all the time.
she should run in the sacuony progride omni 9's
theyre supreme cushioning and support are optimol for running cross country or track and field.
Anyone notice her wearing socks with them? Looks like one is black and the other white?
As for her looking overweight? Nah, sometimes the angle of a camera can make one look bigger than they look. I've noticed that with my daughter's race photo or even mine.
For what it's worth, she raced in spikes in an erly season meet this year where the conditions were extremely muddy. Neither she nor her coach is THAT crazy. As one HS coch mentioned, ou have to keep the kids confident and some simply won't budge. They'll learn -- but not if you force them to. Go Hanna!!!
Socks with Vibrams? Interesting. Better be injinji.
My concern is that this girl is really good, but she has created a kind of buzz about the vibrams. Kids will imitate her because she is good. The vibrams didn't make her fast, her talent and work ethic do that. I know a good bit of her teammates wear them. I am not a fan of the things.
Molly Seidel trains in Vibrams..........

how is that any different from a kid imitating a runner wearing nike spikes?

Smartwool makes toe socks now. Much better than Injinji.
There is no way a college, who has a deal with an athletic shoe company, would allow her to wear these. Unless of course the deal is with Vibram.

This is true, but those spikes didn't belong to her. After the course walk, she realized that it was too slippery to race in vibrams.
A member of their boys team also races in vibrams. He brought his spikes along as a precaution. Fortunately for Hannah, they wear the same shoe size, and he allowed her to borrow his pair for the race.
it sounds like these kids and their coaches are smart, resourceful, experimental, talented and collaborative. They can learn from each other.couldnt picture a better scenario up for a time when coaches and young athletes can easily misjudge a situation but can benefit from learning. She can always bring Vibrams along (they are roll-up flexible) along with her spikes. Just like having an extra pair of socks or a longsleeve undershirt or gloves if the weather changes. The idea is to learn to perform by having more options not less.

She also raced a sub 11:00 3200 indoor the week between footlocker northeast and nationals.
As usual, the main benefit of wearing Vibrams is that it gets you noticed.
Out in California spikes aren\'t allowed in CIF competition, so I don\'t see a big difference between the new trail lace up version of the Vibrams and a spikeless XC flat other than having slots for your toes (and being about $50 bucks more expensive).
If she wore the original (aqua sport) version of the Vibrams then I\'d be more impressed.
She also wears them on the track. That makes no sense to me.
