In Ohio this crime would carry a prison term of 1-5 years, none of which is mandatory. I think 1-5 years is far more appropriate if prison is even necessary. Sorry to say, but when you are in your 30's being attracted to a 17 year old is not abnormal. I know we have a moral and legal obligation not to act on those urges but 10 to life is absolutely unwarranted. I don't think this constitutes him as a sexual predator. Give him a few years and he likely won't do it again. According to an Ohio Criminal Justice Committee study I read, only 2% of low risk sex offenders ever reoffend. Yet they have to register on a sex offender website for 10 years. Again, I'm not saying he is or isn't a predator, but not likely.
Given that, if he ever moves in next to you, you'll know it because he'll be registered. However, if a murderer is released and lives next to you, you won't.
