By the way, she is a very cool and down to earth person.

I regularly play cards with John Peter, a former runner and now USATF II track coach. He's not very good at cards.
who the hell is that? Level 2 is a joke these days isn't it? You sound like you need new friends
In 9th grade for an English project, I wrote to Seneca Lasiter (University of Arkansas) requesting an autograph. He sent one back and we ended up being pen pals (his suggestion) and writing back and forth through my senior year of high school. He always seemed genuinely interested in how things were going.
Also, a kid that I teach at our high school had Leukemia when she was like 4 years old and Randy Moss came to visit her often at the children's hospital in Minneapolis (1st time playing for the Vikings). To this day, they still write back and forth and she doesn't even really like football. He even wrote to her the week before he retired telling her he was thinking about retiring...crazy!
I ran the last 10 miles of the NYC marathon course with Deena and her husband about a month before her NYC debut.
One summer night back in high school, must have been about 1974, I was at an all-comers meet. My buddies and I saw Steve Smith in the pole vault competition. He was then world record holder in the indoor pole vault. We asked him if he would run a mile relay with us, and he did. I remember that he was sub 50 but don't remember exactly what he ran. We were all 52-54 440 guys at that time.
It was a nice thing for an elite to do for three kids.
met a couple people at D-1 Nationals last year
Meb-
I saw him on the screen so I ran up to the fence and passed him my program. After the guys race, I ran into him and he remembered my name. I was pretty impressed. Such a sincere guy. I recommend reading his book, by the way.
Chris Derrick-
Met him after he was coming out of the fenced in area along with Centro. Talked to them for a couple minutes. Later, I was with a friend who had a camera and got a picture with Chris. A couple days later he commented on the picture on Facebook. His attitude was so chill and genuinely kind.
Needless to say, that was kind of an awesome day.
I challenge every who is describing a pro, don't use 'nice'. That's a word that you use when you don't have anything else to say.
At Foot Locker Northeast this year I was waiting for a portapotty to open up. One of them opened and Edward Cheserek stepped out, I pushed the young kid in front of me out of the way to have the opportunity for my fecal matter to lay on top of his. I stared at him, right in the eyes as we passed by each other and entered the now holy pooping station. I looked down into the dark pit of poop mixed with blue liquid and brown stained toilet paper to see at the very top what looked like to be a can of spaghetti-os after a few minutes in a blender. I knew it was Edward. I slowly pulled my pants down and sat down and defecated. As I looked down between my legs I saw a glorious curved brown rod of crap nestled comfortably on top of Cheserek's. We had become one. I stood up and walked out, not before taking a picture and posting on my twitter (@Andrew Wheating). I didn't even wipe. It was a great day.
i went to school, lived, and trained w/ boaz lalang the 2008 800m olympic qualifier. i ran w/ ryan hall and the rest of the mammoth tc over the summer.
You need help, son. Get yourself to a doctor NOW!
At the 2008 USA Track & Field Trials, I ran 12 miles with Brian Sell. He ran with a sweatshirt on (it was like 80 degrees out) in order to better acclimate to Beijing's heat and humidity. I was so thrilled to run with him, I forgotto get a picture with him!
I met Bill Rodgers twice now at the Boston Marathon Expo, was such a great guy, really genuine and seemed enthusiastic about talking about my season.
side note: Met Grady Little at a Boston Red Sox 2003 Opening Day game, and he signed my glove, seemed like a nice guy. I would then come to find out 6 months later he would make me cry when I watched him keep Pedro in through the 11th inning and Pasada hit that homerun.
I went to Molly Huddle's wedding to Kurt Benniger a few years ago. She comes from the nicest family - real salt of the earth folks. I went to high school with one of her older sisters and we have been friends ever since. It was crazy when we were away at college and we heard Molly randomly showed up at a Cornell all-comers meet during her basketball season and ran the fastest time in the nation in the mile so far that year.
Kim Smith was at the wedding. She seemed super nice.
Molly and Kurt were adorable. They both looked like they were about 12 years old - kind of like precious moments figures- and they just about ran down the aisle after the ceremony. So sweet.
Told Shelia Reid congrats on her win at NCAA nationals on the flight home right after the race. hit me up sheila, you're way cute and your accent is so endearing
Got to meet Matt Centrowitz Sr. at a track meet last Spring. I was feeling worn down from a 10K the week before, and ended up dropping out of my race that day. As I watched the next couple of races, I didn't notice him nearby until he casually started up a conversation with me. Really nice guy, it seemed. Not overly friendly, and managed to do a great job picking my mood back up.
Andrew, did Professor Coleman teach you to write ? You should be a screewriter.

She really doesn't have much of an accent.
I've been trained by Rodal numerous times
I have a few running friends who are pretty solid runners. I was at a meet one time where Famiglietti was doing a workout one time. He ran something like a 2:57 1320 to pace the mile and then came back and ran 13:40 to win the 5k as part of the workout. I caught up with him after the 5k and talked with him. We talked about coaches and runners and he gave me insight. Fam said "Sometimes you just have to follow your heart and say f*** coaching." He then said he had to head off to do a 4 mile tempo. I told him I wanted a copy of Run Like Hell because I had missed the opportunity to buy one. He gave me his email and told me to remind him to send me one for free. He's was very down to earth and kind. "Humble" would even be a word I would use.

Rend Lake or Auburn?
One of my coach's went to RL and he hung out at our tent for a bit at Nationals this year. Funny guy.
