lalang only has 10 toes and that will ultimately limit him. [all lowercase indicate that i whispered this -- also on the toilet...nothing creepier than whispering on the toilet]

He never claimed that they were as positive and full of praise as this one. He said that they were neutral or positive. Learn to read. Or to think.
Levins ran his 2009 times at the Canada Summer Games. I remember both were ridiculous negative splits and had me thinking what a huge talent this guy was.
miles make champions...levins was doing 130mpw at the time. hopefully cam can inspire other runners to do more miles like him. imagine where US distance running would be if the NCAA had more runners like this. Yes, I know Levins is Canadian btw.

You miss the entire point of the conversation, that being that the Letsrun message board goes gaga over a white foreigner, while being neutral, at best, on a far superior african runner.
I don't think you are dishonest in your erroneous portrayal of the topic;, merely stupid

Levins is running too many miles! His parents are abusing him! The poor kid will be burnt out by the time he gets out of high school.

I'm sure if Lawi was a mileage hound he would have gotten a thread like this.

And you missed the entire point of the thread. They are going gaga over Levins because he was a barely a sub 16 minute guy in high school who placed 4th at NCAA out of nothing but working harder than probably anyone else in the race. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with Letsrunners loving the idea that anyone can be great by hard work. They dont so much like the idea of super talented athletes that dont have to work as hard to be amazing.
Also Americans tend not to look at Canadians as foreigners so much as being from a farther away state.
Then again I dunno why am I writing this. You look at everything through race-colored glasses all the time. My little rant will in no way change the rampant racism you see everywhere you look.

I felt that was beautifully put.
And it'd be pretty awesome if Cam or a coach could give a sample week of his training. Like to see how he structure the volume.
Not only that Cam is training hard, but that he has had a huge improvement over the last 3 years and that he trains like a (man) - not being sexist (or a hard working woman).
For goodness sakes, yes, Canadians often run in miles. They are a former British colony, like the US, and therefore historically used miles. They officially converted to the metric system but, like Britain, still colloquially use some English units in their daily lives.
Not many of us run in miles. Those that do are shunned.

x2
I read he does 3-a-days somewhere so I'd assume he's doing close to 10 miles, 3 times/day.
He's running in Southern Utah, so of course he would use miles.

It's funny how all the positive and enthusiastic threads on foreign white runners and critical threads on african runners are not based on racism but always some other factor. Well, at least in your mind.
Canadians are not really foreigners? Well, except for Bairu.
And, of course, Americans such as Meb and Lagat and still foreigners. But Mottram, Lemaitre, Cragg, Willis, Coe, Ovett, et al I guess are not. But I am sure there is some obscure, non race based reason for that.

Very well put.

Those of us who started running before the switch to metric in Canada are still running MILES, not KMs

Wow. First thanks for putting words into my mouth that I don't believe. Meb and Kip are two of my favorite runners and I have argued time and time again in favor of Kip against all of his haters. One of the nicest guys I know. And I hate Mottram and Mottram lovers. And as for that Bairu canadian thing, doesn't Bairu fall into the same category as Meb and Kip? He was a Saudi citizen who later became Canadian. The anti-foreigner crowd are going to stick him in the Meb/Kip group, not as a Canadian. Just sayin'.
But once again, this thread is about a guy that was a god damn 16 minute guy in high school who got a top five spot at NCAA by dint of hard work. That is it. You will notice the people trying to keep CD out of the conversation in this thread. Because CD was a superstud out of high school. Levins was not.
Cam Levins, regardless of his race, is a Letsrunner's fantasy. Because every middle of the pack runner here loves the idea of being something great just by working harder than everyone else. Cam Levin's performance in that meet is a fulfillment of their own hard work. They want to believe that everyone is capable of great things in running just by work. Not by being a ringer foreigner (Lawi) or by being a supernatural talent (C.D.), but by being a normal guy who worked his ass off, he was able to take a shot at those guys. And he came up short, but that isn't what the fandom is about.
Why must you inject every thread about a white runner into your idiotic believe of racism, racism everywhere.
It cold outside I just finished a run and had hot chocolate.
