The poor kid lost to a guy that runs 100 miles less per week than he does... work smarter, and harder. Another Nate Jenkins?

He can't be upset even if that were true. In 2008, he probably would have been 3-4 minutes behind Derrick. Now, he is only 7 seconds back. The fact that he was a relative unknown on Letsrun prior to October and ended up finishing 4th at Nationals speaks volumes for his progression.
I'd bet money he meant kilometers
Cam is the most clearly doped NCAA runner of all time.
It is terrible that just because he is white and runs high mileage everyone is blind to the obvious abuse of PEDs. That man has more pins sticking out of him than a porcupine.

Are you going to tell me that Cam could have pushed the NCAA Champs on 55 mpw?
levins is 100 percent talking about miles. see his may flotrack interview here:
http://www.flotrack.org/article/6376-Cameron-Levins-Interview-2011
CK: Two years ago you talked about 100 mile weeks in summer. When you say, “largest base ever,” how large?
CL: I run 120-130 miles per week on average. So I guess it's not a huge jump from 100 but it isn’t a struggle to run that much mileage anymore.
So that means he was doing 100mpw summer 2008, 120-130 summer 2010, 155+ in 2011. Reasonable progression.
He doesn't have the talent of Chris Derrick, Fernandez or Puskedra but he makes up for it with good old hard work. Levins trains harder than anyone in the NCAA. Obviously to be at the level he is at he must have some talent but not nearly as much as some of the aforementioned. Levins gives hope to the non-footlocker phenoms, showing that hard work can make a successful collegiate athlete.
If he would have ran a more conservative race he would have definitely taken down Derrick for 2nd place.
Long Live Levins the Legend!!!!!
I agree Levins would have taken 2nd if he ran more conservative. Good to see that there is still someone out there who runs with guts!!!
What are you talking about??? Chris Derrick ran a smarter race so don't knock him because Levins wasn't as smart as Derrick........ Just kidding, Levins is the BOMB!!!!! Sometimes we applaud the smart racer but this one is not the case. Today the victory goes to the man with balls.
These last 3 posts were pretty funny.
*155 kilometers/week

And now the entire SUU xc team and alumni has created letsrun accounts so that they can come on here and ...
I don't go to SUU an speaking objectively you should probably see a therapist about your anger problems. Just because you have issues doesn't mean you have to take it out on Levins. Your behavior problems will likely stadnd in the way of succeeding in life.
OK kids lets grow up and keep our cool and get back to the matter at hand.
People praise Pre for being willing to go for the win even though it landed him in fourth. To knock on Levins is to knock on Pre. Way to go Levins the running world needs more people willing to take risks.
P.S. I also don't go to SUU.
Thanks for putting foul mouth in his place.
I also don't go to SUU and am a big Chris Derrick fan. But I have to hand it to Levins for being more aggressive this time. Not to say that Derrick was a total wuss, but you got to give credit when credit is do. Levins is Legit
What with all this I'm not from SUU crap. We don't need to establish that people outside of Utah like Levins just for one grumpy kid. The race speaks for itself. Levins probably shouldn't have tried to hang on to Lawi, but you got to respect the kid for trying to do something historic. At least he didn't fall back 20 places as a result of the mistake. If Levins sat back with Derrick he would have most likely took 2nd.
I am a collegiate runner without the kind of talent you see in Derrick, Fernandez or Puskedra. To see a guy out there like Levins mixing things up with the big names makes me feel like I have a chance. Derrick does well you expect that because of his talent, but Levins is a real runner; someone who is willing to do what it takes to be successful.
Why all the talk about Levins we all know that if Verzbikas was there he would have won.
Not only would Verzbikas beat Levins he would swim 2 miles after the race was done.
Levins is a troll! Verzbikas will always be the best.
I am glad Luke decided to do Tri's so he wouldn't humiliate runners like Lawi and Levins.
I hope the best for Levins in track. It would be cool to see him run under 13:20. I wonder how close he will get to 27:30. I also hope puskedra stays healthy. It will be cool to see Levins, Derrick and Puskedra healthy in 10k or 5k.
Levins showed that he amazing at Cross I hope he can do just as well on the track. Maybe he is more like Puskedra in his style and won't throw down a dominating time. His track PRs are good and impressive in their range. I wonder if he would be able to take down Estrada at 5k.
That will be quite the battle. Derrick Levins and Estrada at 5k. Hopefully Fernandez is healthy to mix some things up.
