I know a runner who is very talented, lets just say he runs times in high school which would attract attention from D1 NCAA schools. I on the otherhand, have run average times in high school, and because of these performances- this runner seems to say I have no chance...
He agrees that running is good for everyone, and that I should continue to compete and train hard to reach my potential, but when I tell him I have a dream of one day running in an Olympic Marathon, and that I really believe I will accomplish this goal, he tells me I have no chance. It is because people with more talent than myself will work just as hard and thus run faster times than me, he says.
I'm not looking for sympathy, but do you agree with this guy? I for one do not. There is no way someone is going to tell me that because of average high school performances I have no future as an elite.
