Mick Byrne is an awesome coach with an awesome record.
I'd be pleased to see Wisconsin win the finals this year.
Of course it comes down to who runs the best race.
It's quite possible one of these two, OSU or Wisconsin, won't be in the top three.

Very insightful, thank you.
Wisco losing to Colorado was tough, but Colorado earned that with a great race; Teg, Sol and Bairu each had an opportunity to go for the victory and that can sometimes be a bad thing. If they run conservatively, they probably win; in spite of a certain athlete that bombed!!! (clue, he was in the top 15 as a freshman or sophomore and was around 100th in his senior year)
95th?
You can't blame it all on Spicer though. And Teg and Solinky faded and lost at least 10 points between the two in the last 200. But when you have a number one stick and three in the top 17 it was all on four and five. I don't remember where they finshed but top 30 should have done it. I recall the winning score being around 90. Their job was to finish top thirty and they didn't do it. Solinsky messed up too. It was a team loss (apart from Bairu who did at least 4 points under his cushion.
I forgot about the 1984 race and the starting line controversy. Nonetheless they put Easker in the top 4 and Hacker and Jenkins in the top 14 but the underclassman didn't step up and finished back in the 80 to 100 place range. Count depend on freshman though so that race as a bomb doesn't really qualify, they just had to reload. They also had an upperclassmen, Stintzi, who was a two time top 25 finisher sitting out injured that year.
The score was about 94-92, a two-point difference in the low-mid 90s. One second would have changed the results. Then everyone would be talking about how close the race ended up.
The would not take home the 2nd place trophy, but some coach picked it up/retrieved it and gave it to them.
As good as they are this year, an injury/mishap by one of the top five spells the difference between a title and an also-ran.

Lockhart and Keller both ran as or better than expected, finishing somewhere in the high '30's. That said, both got passed by Colorado's 5th on the final stretch. Spiker had a bad day. And that was Tim Nelson's only bad collegiate race, either on the grass or track.
Strange stuff can happen at the NCAA's.
The guy who said that the Badgers have underachieved at the NCAA's is correct, at least recently. Go through 2006-2010 year-by-year:
2006: Solinsky blows up, team still finishes 2nd, despite not running that well.
2007: Schumacher's 'get out slow' strategy did not work. Finished 5th, 40 points from the podium. Some runners on that team remain livid about the strategy to this day.
2008: Wagner loses a shoe early and ends up as the 6th guy, despite being in the top 2 all year. They finish 4th, two points out of 3rd.
2009: Several guys run poorly and they finish 7th.
2010: 3rd. Krause collapses late, losing 80 or so points, costing an easy 2nd place finish.
The Badgers underachieved each of these years. The reasons vary: bad strategy (once), bad luck (twice), bad performance (twice). Other Badger fans may see it differently, but I was disappointed after each of these meets.
What is that saying? shudda, coulda, wooda or does "glass is always half empty" fit better? I disagree with the statement about underachieving. Maybe its the definition that is tripping me up. I do agee with "strange stuff can happen." I'd say that there is almost always something strange or unexpected each year at nationals.
So you are saying that loosing a shoe or a collapse is underperforming? I'd say it was bad luck, and most likely the individual tried even harder to make up for it. I can't count the times that I've seen both in a top level XC meet. Is the glass half empty? I'd say there are few teams that can top the performance of the Wisco teams you listed below, I mean really, underperforming and still able to be in the handful of the best in the nation is a problem for you? Go back to your couch and work the clicker. You have no clue about the variables of human performance, people aren't machines. Sorry to disappoint you. This is nuts!

There are four to five teams with a very real shot at winning in Terre Haute this year. Ok State have to be the big favorites. Two-time defending Champs who have looked awesome all season and when Girma rejoins the team, who can beat them?
Oklahoma have the guns to make a big run and so do Colorado. Stanford will be better. Add in Wisco and you have a great national Championship race.

Problem for OSU is that Girma is not joining them.
Of the teams you listed, Wisco wins if their top five show up. Only if one of their top five falters will the other teams have a chance. In that case I'd say Colorado and OSU have the best chances. Stanford or Oklahoma would need "miracles" to win.
