I too was there. GF looked VERY good. Looked as though he coulda smoked the field. He was talking to Colby right to the end. Colby seemed to be working much harder than GF.

You mean the Canadian XC National Champ?

Ummm.... I'm pretty sure that you don't need to be there to know that when two teammates finish within 0.1 seconds of each other they are on cruise control.
Get a clue please.

maybe he can get 86th place again
Does no one else remember these same exact posts exactly ONE YEAR AGO? Everyone was talking about German getting through the injuries and finding some consistency for a "big swing into track." How did that work out?
I consider myself a fan of running, therefore I love it when German meets his potential. I guess it just seems silly for us, as a collective, to continually cream in our pants over what might come to be. Sure, it's more constructive than putting him down, but it fuels the haters when he's injured in 4 months.
I, for one, am excited to see a healthy German Fernandez train for more than a few months...if and when that ever occurs.
If German won everything by a large margin, what could we say about him then? Start criticizing his personal life?

At last, someone who can spell "dual" (as in "dual meet") correctly! Congratulations!
Wisconsin v. Oklahoma State will be very interesting at NCAA's next month. Unlike last year when the wind kept everyone together in a main group until the last 2/3 miles, It's clear now that Lawi Lalang is going to split the field. I think Colby and German will get to the front of the chasing group behind Lalang with Derrick, Estrada, Mead etc. and run together and place as high as they can which should be around 5th-10th. Farrell and Kipchircir could do the same finishing say, 15th-25th and with Mecheso either not running or not fit, meaning trying to get Stublaski finishing as quick as he can maybe somewhere like 35th-60th.
So, if Wisconsin do what they did in Madison on Friday and at Dellinger and probably what they'll do at the Conference and Regional meet, their top 5 running together I would see them finishing near Farrell and Kipchircir around the low to mid 20's. If that is the case then the outcome would look something like this:
OSU: 6,7,20,24,45 = 102 points
Wisco: 18,19,21,22,23 = 103 points
So, give or take a few positions, the result will be nail-bitingly close.
If Girma Mecheso is in good shape (Top 30) and ready to run then it's race over in my opinion, BUT this is looking increasingly unlikely so what does Coach Byrne or Coach Smith do? OSU will do most of their damage with Colby and German in the top 8 so will the Badgers have to react and abort their usual race tactics and have Ahmed or Darling chase top 10? But having ran with each other all season maybe this could disrupt them like with what happened to Krause last year? Whatever happens it's going to be exciting!
OSU's thirdand 4th will finish higher than that. If you look at yesterday's splits you'll see that Kipchirchir and Farrell were running right with them through 5 miles. They'll be fit enough to be closer come November. Not right behind them, but they'll put four in the top 20, if not 5. I know because it was written.
I think German is going to sprain his vulva while lacing up the spikes and retire forever, a la Favre. It'll depends on where the NCAA regionals fall in the lunar cycle.
When are people going to realize that German is not a good XC runner. With his talent, he's still able to be top 10 at NCAAs. That's how good he is, but he will never win NCAA XC because there are simply better XC runners in college than him. Come track, if he's healthy all the way through, he will be great again.

I think that there is pretty much zero evidence to support this. He twice won USA juniors, the second time completely destroying Derrick and Puskedra in the process. He led the US junior team at worlds both times. He was running extremely well all of his frosh season in XC, clearly establishing himself as OSU's #1 as a freshman. These things speak of cross country excellence.
And what points in the opposite direction? He has been terrible in one season and mediocre in another the last two XC seasons. But the simple fact is that he has not been healthy for any extended stretch since the summer of '09.
Conclusion: I could just as easily say he is not a good track runner and point to his track performances since the summer of '09. The reality is that he has the talent to excel in both. The only issue is his health which affects XC and track equally.
Looks like comeback going well to me
what is with the slow first mile? 23:00 for last 8,000m? nice work after a tempo mile.

It's a freaking grass track with a speed bump. What else do you expect?
You have to like this Cam Levins kid. 4:00 (1500) in high school at a small D1 school in Southern Utah coming out and whoopin on Wisco, Oregon and now Oklahoma State. Without breaking a sweat, mind you.
i was not aware of that
5:05 for the last 2,000 though o_O
