It will be interesting to see if Bayer runs pre-nats/how he does.

Two-second spread in a deep-field race like this is almost unheard of...maybe unheard of plain and simple?
Any results up from the "B" races?
I’m no guru whatsoever, but in my opinion:
-Wisco did the one thing that they do best: run like a team. Instead of having individuals spread all over the place, they stayed together and worked together. That’s what is going to help win nationals and beat Ok State (aka teamwork).
- Indiana didn’t run terrible today and a reminder that they don’t have Bayer and a few other guys.
-it was an unfortunate day for LV and not only race wise, but now you’ll see idiots on this thread who worshipped him just bring him down saying nothing but negative sh*t. typical Letsrun environment. As for the Oregon team, it’s time for them to regroup. They are NOT a top 10 team anymore.
-Lutz should definitely be thinking about top 10-20 at nationals because after today I believe the kid has it in him to do it. As for Texas, mad props on their run.
-Lalang is RIGHT NOW the favorite to win nationals. Wait and see what Korir does at Pre-Nats. I’m not giving up hope on Derrick to make a run for the title as I feel like he’s has yet to peak.
I agree that there are/were probably a lot of unrealistic Lukas V fans out there, but I also have a strong suspicion that a lot of the 'he's going to win this one easily and walk across the finish line' type posts were actually thinly veiled sarcasm, poking fun at the fanboys. That's how I see it anyway. I actually posted a few of them myself, to let you in on the secret....
Lukas was the 5th freshman finisher, which is pretty good, but I'd have to guess that his tempo runs last year weren't much slower than his race today. He has to be a little disappointed.
Hopefully people will start to give Texas the credit they deserve. Most underated team in the NCAA by far. Lutz ran great, and with Dohner improving each week coming off his stress fracture, mcregor added in there this team has a bright future. Not to mention there top 7 was freshman, soph, jr, jr, freshman, soph, and senior. Hook em!
Ouch on this blowup in the women's race:
Missa Varpness SO Minnesota 10:41 23:38.9
10:41/12:58 - those last 3K must have hurt! But she's fairly cute, so it's all good:

NOT TRUE!
2010 Nationals Bayer was number two behind Poore and practically even with hubers.
2010 Nats:
1 32 214 Andrew Poore JR 30:29
2 55 208 Andrew Bayer SO 30:47
3 57 210 Ben Hubers JR 30:51
4 66 212 Zachary Mayhew SO 30:57
5 88 217 Desean Turner JR 31:14
6 (169) 218 Andrew Weatherford JR 32:12
7 (185) 213 Nate Morrow SO 32:35
This Wisconsin meet
1 23 Andrew Poore SR 24:13
2 27 Ben Hubers SR 24:16
3 35 Adrien Dannemiller SR 24:22
4 68 Andrew Weatherford SR 24:38
5 118 Desean Turner SR 24:54
6 (216) Yoshi Shimizu SO 25:44
Jamboree:
1 11 Adrien Dannemiller 24:17.34
2 12 Ben Hubers 24:18.41
3 15 Andrew Poore 24:23.37
4 16 Zachary Mayhew 24:23.64
5 35 Benyam Bizuneh 24:53.57
6 ( 38) Desean Turner 24:57.01
7 ( 69) Nate Morrow 25:30.30
Looking at this Dannemiller/Hubers/Poore are all around the same. Thus based on 2010 XC finals you can assume Bayer is going to fall between 1-4 but change must this it simular to just adding a 4th guy that is very close to their 3rd guy.
and mayhew is clearly their 5th guy so in all
They ran without their 4/5 guys NOT their top guy/stud due to seeing how close indiana's 1-4 are.

It was cold that day!
Based on everything -- not just one race -- Bayer probably should be IU's #1 (if healthy).
What were the weather conditions like? Was it windy? Soft course? The times as a whole seem a bit slow.
Where was Emily Sisson for the Providence women?

This is great but not for Lucas...
Mick just called and is obviously over the moon. He had to tell his guys to hold back and not chase after individuals. He is a true teacher- first coach. Understands students, nurtures them, prepares gem for real life.
Enough advertising... I only wish the last three runners of mine he recruited had gone to Wisco or Iona before.
25-30 mph winds.

Hey dickface, no one likes you. Leave the website.
It's unfortunate that due to your response, which clearly lacks class, that you only put yourself in the same category as the one you despise so much...

Yes, it was quite windy (WINDY, unusually so, probably windiest day for any Wisconsin track or XC race I have ever seen) and a bit cool (53 on my way over, but probably 55 by race time).
The wind slowed times two ways: First, the wind made it harder to keep up a hard effort. It is a rolling but not hilly course but I heard runners say that it was hilly, more so than other courses they run. The reason was that you had to work so hard with the wind that you were tired when you hit the hills, plus it isn't really flat in very many places.
Second, Because it was windy people did not want to go out and string it out (other than Lalang). The Wisconsin guys wanted to hang together so that they would not have to be breaking the wind but as it turned out the front guys went in pieces and then the Wisconsin guys were altogether in a group in the wind. It was pretty clear that with five right up front that no one else was going to win. If Bayer were real fit and they had their other top guy they might have been second and made it closer, but BYU ran well and should be taken seriously.
