Wouldn't this be the perfect way for an athlete (or anybody) that did not endorse or use such a product to play the game.
Doing this says: I don't drink this shit, but I am obligated by this sponsor to act half-assedly like I do, so this is me pretending and not caring if it is obvious that I am not actually consuming this swill.
