Kipligat, the womens winner, had a male pacer the entire way. Not sure what that means. If a woman wants to run a WR, does she decide not to have pacers? Does that mean that women can't set a WR in Berlin because some women have pacers?
In a world record attempt, it would be decided between the race organizer and the athlete and their representatives. Under the new rules, an IAAF world record (what they would be shooting for) is only allowable in a women-only field, and without male pacemakers. Female pacemakers capable of making WR pace (even the women-only WR) are much harder to come than they are for male world record attempts.
