What are some thoughts on dating female athletes on the same college team as you?
Good or bad, I just want to see some thoughts.

It's good until you break up.
Then it just gets awkward...
Don't crap where you eat.
You only have 4-5 years to compete, do them all. Is it really going to matter 10 years from now?
XC or track?
Dating XC girls carry much higher risks of drama/histrionics b/c of group dynamics, not to mention higher prevalence of mood/personality/eating disorders in XC.
Track girls do their own thing and generally have lower psycho-quotient. Not to mention tend to be hotter.
Not that I paid any attention to the above when I was in college...
Go for it.
You'll never be this age again.
I think you have to consider the level of interaction between the men's and women's teams at your school. At some schools, there is one coach for both teams and the men and women practice at the same time and spend a lot of time together. At other schools, the two teams are only really in the same place at the same time during meets. If your team is in the former category, a bad breakup might create some issues. If your team is in the latter category, there's probably less potential for drama.
As a female let me explain something to this male dominated board. The only women on the cross team that ever dated guys on the cross team were troubled. Only the drama queens that were not capable of dating outside of the team.

I was about to say the same thing, but reversed; only guys who couldn't date outside of the team went after girls on the team.
Do you think it was a bad idea for Adam Goucher?

It's good right up until the point where they say no they are not interested

Are you not supposed to pick someone that you like rather whether than whether or not they are on your team?
I'm guessing the cross team were not exactly queuing up to ask you out

You're spending time together every day, going on trips together, going to parties together. Of course people end up dating. It's no weirder than people dating on their dorm floor or in classes or at work.
It's all fun and games until someone is accused of rape.

Exhibit A. Girls get jealous, pissy, escalate drama, when they see someone get what they don't have. Can get awkward.
Finding someone on XC team who can drink/hang out w guys/has sense of humor/no eating issues = gold.
Stick to the boys.
During my high school teaching/coaching career I had quite a bit of dating on the cc team. Seven marriages resulted from the dating and, I am happy to report, all seven of the marriages are still going strong. Of course, I was able to attend all seven weddings. I still see the couples on occasion. What successful and happy couples!
Our boys and girls trained together so I think the bond of being in the trenches together allowed the kids to see the "real" person. All of the kids were super smart and great students so maybe that is part of the reason for their successes, also. Happy to say all fourteen kids are out of college, employed, and have families.
6/10,
guys on here don't date girls

As a male I've found that running females are always troubled, regardless of who they date, your assumption that he can't simply date someone else is so far out in left field that I assume not a single desirable male in your lofty standards ever asked you out while he shared the title "teammate"

Shitstorm incoming.
On a side note. I suspect this isn't actually a troll, but I do suspect that this varies enormously from school to school. Here's a stunner folks; different girls want different teams. There are probably teams out there where the girls all get giggly and start blushing every time the top XC guy so much as looks as them. There are probably teams out there where the girls don't even know who the current top guy on the team even is. Some girls' teams have a unified culture in the locker room, and the team is made up of like minded individuals. Others are more differentiated.
Bottomline is, most runners both male and female have a lot of characteristics that both genders find appealing in the other. There are plenty of reasons for runners to date each other; but when they're on the same team, there are plenty of reasons not to as well.
