Running Maryland talked to Centro Jr. about worlds and being back home while he was at the Navy Invite the other day. I didn't know he would be back in Maryland. Thought for sure he'd be heading straight back to Eugene.

Great interview. Good questions - i liked the conversational style

What's in Eugene that he'd head straight back there?
He's not running XC. His track season is over. He can go to the place where he grew up, say hi to people, spend a bit of time with his family.
That doesn't seem that odd at all.
Exactly, I mean it's not like he has any classes that he needs to attend. He's just there to run for the U of O, right?
Classes at Oregon don't start until next week, 9/26.

That seems kind of late. So they take finals after Xmas I presume?
Are you actually that lazy?
The Brother went through the trouble to include a link that brings you directly to Fall 2011 Academic Calendar and Deadlines that clearly indicates "December 5-9 Final Examinations".
Is clicking and reading too difficult now?

Nice one big shot.

He obviously is not a Professor at U of O.
I agree with you. September 26 seems ridiculously late for fall semester start. I always wondered why the Oregon team was at running camp while everyone else was in class. Must be nice.
U of Chicago also starts late I guess U of O and U of C are both jokes.
Oregon is on a trimester system. Quarterly if you count the summer session. The standard academic year has one 11 week session ending in December, and two more 11 week sessions ending in March and June. Oregon is still in class until June 15th while students on the east coast are at the beach!!! There are as many days of class as a semester system, but students have to suffer through finals week 3 times annually instead of twice.
U of O: middling academic school with big-time sports
U of C: big-time academic school with middling sports.

U of O is worse than middling in academics.
U of C is worse then middling in sports.
only the "middling" care what school you went to
Even if Oregon was truly "worse than middling in academics," (which is just harsh) I wouldn't doubt that you'd kill to have a resume and a reputation like Centrowitz.
You should've seen him at the Navy meet. Hundreds of strangers were approaching him telling him that they were fans or to wish him congratulations.
On a trimester plan, students take fewer classes at a time and final exams cover a shorter period and less material than a full semester. It still sounds easier.
hmmm about that... wrote:

I didn't say I wouldn't. I'd love to be a bronze medalist at the Worlds. Heck, I'd love to win a bronze medal at my local road race.
Likewise, I'd like to have a U of C education (though mine isn't too shaby, and a family member went to U. of C.)
I was merely correcting the earlier poster who claimed O of U was a great athletic program at a middling academic school (and vice versa for U of. C) Oregon - as much as I root for them in track, is not even a middling academic school. It's a poor one.
And U. of C., for all their brain power, is not even a middling athletic school. It's a poor one these days. Not horrible. By DIII standards pretty good, but in the grand scheme of things, poor.

Please provide facts to back up your assertions.
