Blake's time in Zurich makes him the 4th-fastest guy ever, by corrected times.
It goes Bolt, Gay, Powell, Blake.
Intervening times of Carter, Greene, and Mullings are all bogus or doped.
Blake's 9.82 times compare very well, and are ahead of greats such as Bailey, Surin, Fredericks, Boldon, Lewis.
Bolt, Gay, and Powell have some times better than his, and some times worse--but Blake is just starting out, and will likely pile up a whole bunch of good times in that top tier.
Blake is THERE, NOW.
If he can continue his trajectory next year, he will medal. He will easily surpass Powell (he already HAS, this year), and he may well surpass Gay, depending on how Gay's rehab goes. Bolt is another matter entirely.
Back-to-back 9.82's with room for improvement, halfway across the world after winning a world championship, is the bomb. You will see.
I do believe Bolt to have been capable of somewhere around a corrected 9.69 this year, which means that if he doesn't slack off, stays uninjured, and gets his act together, that we could see low-to-mid corrected 9.6x from him next year. Blake could have gone corrected high 9.7x this year, just based on RT. He would need to improve .10-.15 in one year to get to where Bolt could very well be, which is a tall order...but he DOES have room for improvement.
But then again so do Gay and Powell, and although we've seen brief flashes of actual improvement, both these guys rather quickly reverted to their old ways, with their old flaws, and have not shown any sustained improvement that would likely manifest next year.
If Blake runs his same race next year he will get either silver or bronze. If he shows up with an improved first 5 steps, he will get either gold or silver.
