Well for me, training is my top priority. Then comes eating, sleeping and recovering. My major is quite easy so I rarely have more then a paper to write or quiz to get ready for.
I run 80-85 miles a week, study , < 3 hours a week.
I enjoy going out and having a few beers and hot women on Thursday's, Friday's, and Saturday's.
Just to clarify: Do you have a few hot women each night or is there one each night of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday? Also, do you add this activity to your mileage total and if so, what is the conversion factor? Example: 1hr vigorous sheet time = 8 miles? How do you feel this helps your training? How do you feel the beer helps your training? Thanks in advance.

Life is training. Fall is ok.. some occassional drinking and girls on weekends. Once Halloween hits.. no beer, no partying, gettin lucky only if its before 10:30 and its some xc chick who likes me for my speed. In season: 9 hours of sleep. Hard major = mostly C's. Traveling to big meets most weekends and being in great heats. Running the 8 in the Big Ten meet = All-Americans sometimes even can't score. But I still score cause I'm a boss.. sadly that doesn't really translate to scoring with chicks. Scoring at Big Ten's is better anyways though.. I'd rather score 3 points than score with a girl who is a 3 out of ten. Sorority chicks don't care if you run 1:48 or 1:58.. they're amazed you run 2 whole laps without stopping for a break.

Clearly you got into college based on athletic merit and not your ability to read and write. Duke?

Thursday's what?

This crime is actually prepositional in nature. "Thursday's, Friday's, and Saturday's" is the name of a bar. He actually should have said "at Thursday's, Friday's, and Saturday's."
Although his prepositional usage might not be up to par, I applaud his use of the oxford comma.
I'm nowhere near a sub-4:00 guy but I ran 15:03 in college off 90mpw. I very rarely partied or drank or got with girls, I did a lot of studying though, 50+ hrs/wk. My point is that some 'slower' athletes live very committed, cloistered lives as well. Some of my faster team mates partied more than me, some didn't. Same with my slower team mates.
Amount of partying might have more to do with how studious you are than with how fast you are. My biggest breakout year was also the year I drank the most.

I don't believe anyone asked you
I was 4.03 guy who lived/trained with two sub 4 guys. It really varied. When training we were training hard. When we partied we partied hard. It was night and day. I'd suspect you'd find that with a lot of elite athletes.
We went out very hard a couple times a season. Always after big races. We never had casual beers though. Never drank while watching football or on a random Tuesday night. We had a couple days every season marked off that we new were going to be ragers, but other than that it was all business.
Four-flat guy here. I find the sober advantage is beneficial in all aspects of life, but especially with Sunday long runs and women.

This is my exact experience as well.
Life style was good. I ran prs of 146 800m and 337 1500m off of about 50 miles per week. I was a triple major in chem, bio, and physics with a minor in math so about an hour or two per day was devoted to study. In my free time I ate, watched sports, partyed and banged dozens of women per semester.
I'm not quite sure I believe you...
Lived with sub 4 guy for 3 years, and was sub 14 5k guy myself.
As someone mentioned, it was all business. We trained HARD. Easy days were 5:50ish pace for example.
Normal day was wake up, morning run, class, nap, practice, dinner, bed. Very unremarkable, nothing really special.
One thing I noticed was that we took recovery very seriously, meaning if we were tired we would not go to class and sleep instead. We were rarely injured and I think this was part of the reason.
NEVER drank the random beer or went out to bars. The sub 4 guy wouldn't touch alcohol and would only drink after nationals if he considered it a success.

Hell yes! oxford comma ftw!@!!@!@!@
I think it is the same with any committed runner. I was no where near a 4 minute miler but I lived that lifestyle.
Running was my number one priority.70-75 mpw. Relationships were secondary. My goal was to be a top ranked runner in NorCal back during the first running boom. Worked my tail off and made it.
Then right in the middle of it, I met the woman who would become my wife. She supported my running but ultimately I had to go get a job (I was living on savings). I still ran well after that but the cloistered life of the ascetic runner was over.
