Wejo kicked my butt by over 6 minutes. The important thing was that as soon as I got home, I logged onto letsrun and became a fan.

Wejo half marathon video

Any chance of posting the rest of the video? I happened to have placed in the full marathon and would love to see the race again. The broadcast was from a series called Running & Racing. It was on ESPN and they would highlight a couple races per month. Too bad it's not on anymore. Good stuff!
well i'll be damned....
wejo actually had GREAT sprinting form. ala @the look-back. reminds of lance armstrong when he was in hills in yellow. they always show the clip--can't remember who he looked back at.
Jan Ullrich of Germany. (Armstrong also waited for Ullrich once when Ullrich rode off a downhill into a gully.)
No shame in giving up ~30 seconds a mile to a living legend like wejo. He would have had me by about 15 minutes! wejo FTW (literally)
Check out WeJo's USATF bio from back in the day:

5' 10" and 157? That's either shy by 4" or heavy by 20 pounds, not sure which, but that is WAY off!

2. ESPN televises half marathons??? News to me, sweet
Most amazing thing about this video.
I thought he looked taller than 5'10" in the Las Vegas Half video and plus I thought he did better than 2:xx? unless he ran the full one year?
Ooops... my bad, I didn't have my reading glasses. I read the results wrong. Either way, pretty impressive!

I love that his country is listed as "Texas" :)
Haha yeah, but actually, what they routinely did- back when road races were on TV all the freaking time- was list a foreigner's country and and American's state.
awesome find!!!
I have this old Running & Racing video somewhere in the collection.
Marty Liquori is the commentator of the video, and the Running & Racing series ran for many years.
The series covered Road Racing and some track events.
best part by far is when wejo points out to ngatia to cut in on the left, then swings wide on the right.
all is fair in love and kicking.
great video.
Before watching this my first thought was, "Wow just 10 years ago running was on ESPN."
Until seeing the video I had almost no memory of the race. A couple of thoughts:
1) No wonder I never ran a good marathon. I was bouncing all over the place.
2) I wore the LetsRun.com tshirt instead of singlet. To me that means I was out of shape.
3) Let's bring back Running and Racing! I used to love that show.
Was that race in early 2001?
Wejo,
February 4, 2001. It was pretty chilly at the start. That might have been the reason for the T Shirt. You actually started with gloves on and tossed them a few miles in. I remember that race like it was yesterday. Any more questions such as splits, the conversation during the first few miles, the girls at the water station on the warm down - yes, I'm a kick ass wing man - let me know.
I thought it was funny that you won a race wearing a t-shirt, especially a letsrun.com t-shirt.
Also, Texas is a country.
Sammy Ngatia....I know him....still a beast for his age
is there any place that i can watch the full race video?
Did a little research, and found that the series was produced by David Beld. Evidently Beld produced multiple televised running events

Maybe we could convince him to pitch the idea of bringing back the series to ESPN?
