Somebody is going to break a World Record in Brussels. It is either going to be the 5000m women, 3000m Steeplechase, 1500m man or 800m man. Don't ask me how I know, I just feel like it is going to happen

Of those you mentioned the most likely would be the mens 800.
But even thats a long shot...as are all world records!
Brimin Kipruto is the one likely to break it. He was mad that kemboi beat him. Vivian Cheruiyot with good base making might prevail, Milka Chemos running with the Russian maybe able to take it down

Do you want us to mark your words?

Don't ask me how I know, I just feel like you're an idiot.
I was surprised that Kipruto would lose.
But it was not surprising because he let the pace be so slow.
There is no f**king way the 1500m WR is going down.
I'll bet mens steeple.
I'd say that the probability of a record going down at Brussels is < 10%.
If it happens, I'd say it would be the women's steeple, followed by the men's steeple, assuming that they are having both men's and women's steeples.
I think that a WR is more likely at Rieti.
yes. for some reason there are always fast times in Rieti.
I don't trust the organizers. it goes back to the 1983
when Ovett set a new WR in the 1500m (3:30:77) and he said in a post-race interview that he did not run that fast. He was sure of it.
I think Kiprop has the ability to give a run at it at some point. But I agree that its a distant long shot compared to the other events the OP listed.

No, Kiprop has no chance to ever set the 1500 record. Kiprop would have to knock more than 5 seconds off his best time. This will never happen.
agree. he is at his peak now.
his 2'44 tt at altitude gives some food for thought
that may be 2'42/2'43 at sea-level ( may be even 2'41 ( ?? ) but i'm not going there )
we know he can go 1'43-flat currently ( he went 1'43.1, but left his "kick" late in chasing rudy )
1'43.00 with
2'43.00 ->3'29.60
2'42.75 ->3'29.11
2'42.50 ->3'28.63
2'42.25 ->3'28.14
2'42.00 ->3'27.66
i reckon mid-3'28 is possible for him in a "perfect" race as starting point of discussion
One hundred percent there will be no WR in middle distances in Bruxelles. The best athletes are nervously empty after WCh, there is a jet lag in the middle, and celebration at home for Kenyans.
The only chance is for Zarudneva. She never competed thie year in Diamond League, is still mentally fresh, and showed to be really stronger than the other competitors, running 9'07" without rabbits, in front from the start.
May be there is some seasonal best, but speaking about WR is really something not reasonable.
Renato, do you have an idea why nobody now runs 3:26, 3:27 anymore? Is the reason just in the talent of El Guerrouj, Morceli etc.??
Renato will you be there in Brussels?

I don't even know why you'd guess the 1500 - nobody active today is even sniffing 3:25 ability (or taking sufficient EPO).
Obviously the SC is possible, since Kipruto came within 1/100. Renato is right that jet lag and post-WC celebrations diminish the possibility, but Kipruto is clearly fit to do it, and will be insanely hungry after having yet another win snatched away by the slower but better-racing Kemboi.
800? Maybe. Rudisha has been enigmatic this year and shouldn't be too tired, but I don't think he's had nearly the good run of specific preparation that he had for his WR attempts last year.
The one man that seems capable of running a very fast 1500 is Silas Kiplagat.
When El G set the record of 3:26.00 is PR at the time was 3:28.91, so he chopped of nearly 3 seconds from his PR to smash the record.
Kiplagat's PR is 3:29.27, not too far from where El G was.
He is young, fairly new on the scene and has all the potential in the world. And he obviously doesn't mind going after a fast pace.
I'm not calling for him to get the record. But he is the 10th fastest man ever and he may be looking to climb that list.
Toro, athletics is not so easy as you think.
During the period of El Guerrouj, there were pacers (for example Malakwen) able running 1200m in 2'45". Today, we have problems in finding pacers able running a little under 2'50". In the list of Bruxelles, I don't see any fast pacemaker. In my opinion, if everything is ok is possible to run a little under 3'30", not better.
About Brimin, don't forget he had a special pacer in Paul Koech, that wanted to show AK he could merit the selection. Don't think the same thing can happen in a meeting again. For this year, Brimin lost the big opportunity, and I'll surprise if the same opportunity can come again.
