Umm...Alan Webb ring a bell?
Umm...Alan Webb ring a bell?
Except Vin is not his coach. Andy Powell is his coach.
someone stick a fork in him, he's done
Centro is becoming a big championship runner , hardest thing to teach an athlete.
His positioning was dangerous at best over the last 400 , biding time with this type of field not always works. Perfect race ? Lucky race with finesse and being patient not to panic when he looked boxed in as they started to move.
HE IS BRONZE!
Alan Webb is going to be crushed when he sees this
You guys, seriously, Centro isn't that good. He only got third in a slow race in a weak 1500 year. Think about if there were any REAL 1500 runners in that race like El G or Seb Coe. He wouldn't have stood a chance. Typical American behavior, praising mediocrity. Pre would be rolling in his grave.

In jealousy... Pre only got 4th...

Come on he was on the inside and got boxed at the bell and lossed time waiting for a gap round the bend at that point. He did very well to get bronze from there though
He's got the one thing you need in middle distances, a decent kick
I don't get why everyone is so worried about being boxed. You don't need to worry too much about being boxed. On the first few laps, it means you are saving ground.
On the last lap, being boxed isn't a real issue unless you are trying to win or unless you are way in the back.
Now, I know technically everyone is trying to win but it's way harder if you are a favorite like Kiprop and Kiplagat and you are racing to win. As the favorite often runs wide and more distance in an effort to not get boxed.
The guys that sit calmly and wait to unleash it late often sneak up for 3rd as was the case with WIllis in 2008 and Centro here today.
Im so stoked to see this. Iwatched the race before seeing the results and Im so proud. This kid has excellent form and tactics, I really look forward to watching him progress over the next 6-7 years! Great job
I was thinking pretty much the same. He and Simpson were sooo smart the last 300, or so confident? Let the pretenders chase with fear down the backstretch... give room off the back of the lead pack to avoid jittery movers in spots 3-5. Start a move with 150 to go to clear yourself from the traffic, and with 100 to go hopefully you have more than 1 gear left to hold off the late kickers!
Congrats to Centro! He pulled it off and unlike the sh@t talkers who come out AFTER THE RACE I gave my support and belief in his ability before hand. He raced very smart and he's got balls the size of the dang White House. He's clearly America's new medal threat at the 1500m in London!!

Not knocking Pre (cause he's awesome) but Pre would get lapped in a world class 10 and be way, way back in the 5.
I've never paid much attention to Centro until this race. 51.6ish at the end isn't too shabby.
Does anyone know when the last time an American placed at a world championships? I'm thinking Scott in the 80's.

Sorry. My memory doesn't go back that far. That must be at least 2007. If memory serves, Webb ran a terrible WC final - getting outkicked by 1/2 the field.

I saw Pre. Pre was no Pre.
Average on the world stage and more important to Americans than anyone else. Not anywhere near the pantheon of runners.
Superb performance. MC will is most definitely 3:30 capable in a single race and will be a world class challenger for years to come. Enough said.
irish guy rollickin the mull old school
centro tossed a nice elbow at kiprop
