Yes! So proud that one of our distance athletes finally reached for it and grabbed gold! She adapted to the situation, and ran her heart out. She didn't race for silver or bronze, she went for the whole shebang and got it. Jenny Simpson did the sport and her country proud today!

Really happy for Jenny. She really used her finishing speed at the right time and looked under control the entire race. She must be in great shape right now.
Uceny never looked better the first 1000m, right up until....I'm so glad she didn't get hurt! Classy interview afterwards.
From my view of the big picture, this looks like a double win for Team USA.
Perfectly coached, peaked at exactly the right time, perfect execution of race strategy. I figured that Morgan and Jenny both had a decent shot at gold, and I don't think this should really be considered an upset. With Jamal Oregoning-out, if Morgan hadn't been tripped, it could have been 1-2.
BTW, whatever happened to all those people that kept saying how bad Jenny's coach was and how she was never going to amount to anything because she didn't sign with Nike and train with the Oregon losers?
OK one more thing - i got tired of watching the races on youtube late in russian or something so I sprang for the universal sports thing yesterday and that was the best $15 i ever spent. I wouldnt have missed that race for anything.

The most exciting race I've seen by an American since Webb ran 3:53 at Pre 10 years ago. Absolutely awesome! Lagat has had some great wins in there where he looks like a cat playing with a mouse and just smoothly and methodically pulls away but this was an incredible suprise (to me anyway)and very inspiring.

Ha, I know! The British announcers were spaced out. They were acting as if it was the semis. It was a weird race to watch.
Great victory for Simpson. Sad fall for Uceny. Been in that situation on the latter. It is a very hollow surreal feeling.

For mid-d or distance that was the greatest American race in recent history. I was freaking out at 1st because she was at the back, then moved up on the outside, then dropped back in on the rail, etc but she was where she needed to be when it counted and had that big kick at the end she always used to have. Speed kills and Jenny has it in spades when she's healthy. What a great win!
Tough break for Morgan but she's fit and talented and will have her day soon I'm sure.
What was up with England (the runner)? The closeup on her after the race, she seemed like she thought she'd won, then looked mildly disappointed when someone told her she got second. But how could she NOT know she didn't win, given Simpsons was right in front of her?

She ran a good race though. I think if the race were 50meters longer, she might have won. She had some good acceleration in the last 50-73 meters.
