Symmonds is one of the best tactical runners out there, especially in the sometimes crazy 800.
Sure Simon could have gone faster by maybe 6-8 meters.
But so could have the others.
Look at Kaki, he had to create his own route home and Rush led all the way giving the field every chance to beat him.
I think the polish guy was fouled up bad by Kaki along the way too.
So all considered, the results reflect the athletes ability on the day very well. Except maybe the pole should have been in a dead heat with Borz.
I don't understand your view of tactics but Symmonds is one of the worst tactical runners I have seen.
Interesting previous comments above - He's smart, he never gets hurt.
To me he thinks too much and lacks sponteneity in races. He 'knows" himself too well and stays in the box. Putting himself out of the reach of top level races. He never gets hurt becuse he never runs fast enough to get hurt. He always finishes strongly, cos he never approaches his limits.
He's a typical US runner who likes to look at himself in the mirror.
He needs to be found naked and drunk and tied to a lampost in Nashville. And perhaps pull that stick out of his arse so he can start racing. And by the way, lose about 15 pounds.
He's got talent, but limits himself.
