Fun interview to watch. Still can't believe she's only 19. Seems like she's been around forever. Should be an interesting XC year.

I saw her first Footlocker High School championship at age 14. Amazing little girl far ahead of the juniors and seniors. Thought she'd be an NCAA champ for sure by now. Maybe she should turn pro. Her major at OU is exercise physiology anyway so...

Already a two time champion in the mile and 3000. Watch the interview.

I haven't even watched the video but I'm going to act as if the OP is not pulling my leg.

Seems like your opinion misses the point. Wouldn't "greed sucking Vin" make her run NCAAs AND the OT's ? Instead, he's giving a runner who, despite expectations, won't even be a favorite for the American team (Willard, Uceny, Rowbury, Barringer, Wurth-Thomas... do I need to list everyone here?)

No, instead, if he decides to allow her to redshirt, she can train for OT's, get some great experiences in Europe (without the BS pressure that she is already a pro at handling) and come back for 3 more years of kicking butt at Oregon before her real shot in 2016.

"Greed sucking Vin" seemed to work out pretty well as a coach for Eaton, Wheating, Centro, Rupp, and the list goes on. I like the decision to red-shirt Hasay. She can gain some valuable experience, get to know the girls on the pro circuit (who don't give a crap about all the NCAA hype), and come back more confident in her long term prospects.

Thanks for posting and feel free to post again. But - and I know this isn't exactly Standard Op Procedure on these boards - clean up your language and post more respectfully. It's ok to disagree with a decision but calling someone "greed sucking" first of all doesn't even make sense and secondly is an unnecessary attempt at insult.

My mistake. I neglected the indoor championships. Wish her success whatever route she takes.

If he was burning her out he wouldn't want her to red shirt but would have her run full seasons potentially thru the Olympics.

The point is clear , maybe not to you , she may not make it to 2016. Vin is about the points for winning , he is judged on winning. Didnt we read how this young athlete asked over the coaches advice to run two events in the last outdoor NCAA and he allowed her to run knowing she was tired. Later admitted he regretted it. A good coach thinking about the athlete , would have put his foot down said no and not worried about the points. Now at seasons end of a long year the kid is burnt out.

He has no option but to redshirt her.

Post collegians , well lets see how your list goes , Vin's record is average given the talent level gone through with his tenure at the different institutions. He was smart enough to let Salazar stay in the loop for Rupp at the UO and get Harry M. coaching Eaton. Vin recruits well , always has.

Who coaches Centro? Vin? Dad?

You're wrong. It was Hasay herself who insisted on doubling at NCAAs. So if you're going to fault Vin, fault him for letting her double when he felt she was only ready for one event. As he has said in the past, they disagreed, but in the end he let here make the decision. As you say though, he later admitted that he regretted it.

He was not, as you try to imply, aiming for more points. Quite the opposite. And as this latest news illustrates, his decisions are as much about doing what's best for the individual athletes (in this case giving Jordan time to train for the Olympics) as they are about doing what's best for the team.

she is running cross, but will redshirt indoor and/or outdoor to get ready for the trials/A standard/london.

Not true. Vin could very easily make her run. After all, she is on an athletic scholarship so he can ask her to do whatever he wants barring injury. As has already been said, if Vin was greedy could run her all year and then make her go to US trials and all that. Some athletes can handle it. Wheating seemed to do fine his senior. Not so well this year. But, if Vin lets her redshirt this year, I don't see how he's doing anything but trying to help her.

Read before you write. Im not one side or the other , just looking at facts.

Do your research , he states numerous time pre and during the meet about getting points to win.

Coaches with teams that have a shot at finishing high at nationals look at getting points wherever they can. Vin is a master of this as his record of high placings over the years show.
