weaksauce.
weaksauce.
The problem with US distance runners is they are always focusing on "next year" and when "next year" gets here they are focusing on "next year" again or "4 years" from now to medal at the og's. Some of these africans run marathons in the fall, xc in the spring and track in the summer. The midd guys would run indoor. some even running xc and then of course track in the summer. Even if its one marathon or half. Or a couple xc races and then worlds. (seriously we need to start sending our best to worlds). Its not like they are over racing where as these american guys train the whole year and update there twitter every week and update us on a good work out they did or how they are looking forward to big things this summer. Seriously guys. Shutup and race. We are tired of waiting 7 months to see you guys race and then dns or dnf.
Hmm.I wonder what people on this board would say if that were Farah pulling out. Or Bolt.
OK, then he ended his season. He can certainly run sub-12:50 if healthy.
Hamstring injury.
Absolute Bullcrap.
I don't care WHO you are or WHAT you feel like--you qualify, you go, and you start the damn race unless you can't stand up.
Either he's telling the truth in which case he's a complete wang, or he's lying and he was afraid of drug testing.
Take your pick.
A 10k guy complaining about a hamstring injury, give me a break. You GO, you LINE UP, you START the damn race, you give it the best you've got, and you see what happens.
Going to WC's is a privilege, you better make damn sure not to waste the opportunity.
I hope that I never see this bum again--I hope he gets his a$$ handed to him at Olympic trials, and that he doesn't get to go at all.
You get bumped off the track, you damn well get back on that track and FINISH the race.
If I were the USATF guy hand-picking who gets in and who doesn't, I'd throw him off the team. I might not even let him compete in trials. He's a whiny, petulant, bum.
Get you A$$ to the starting line, or get the F- lost.
Shut up you old has-been windbag. It would be a huge a**hole move to start the race and limp to a slow time, not to mention completely wrecking his chances of a quick recovery. Plus that would screw over Bumbi, who deserves the spot if Solinsky is hurt.
if injured, you give your spot to the fourth guys at the Trials!
You don't want to ruin other runners chances simply to act like a "hero". Your injury may get worse in the attempt.
Sir Lance-alot wrote:
in hindsight (thought it crossed my mind in earlier this season), this was to be expected at some point for Chris. Why? Because he has been indestructible the last several years. Everyone always said: Solinksy's biggest strength is he doesn't break down or get hurt, and this allows him to keep upping the ante on his training. With that mind, EVENTUALLY, he had to get hurt. No one is truly indestructible, so the eventuality of injury finally occurred.
Yes. We now see that the whole Solinsky mythos was just BS. When it came time to step up to the world level neither he nor his body could cut it. He's already run the best race he's going to run.
Boo-hoo to all you Solinsky supporters.
He's a bum--look at how he wanked out of the race recently.
He's a whiner, a complainer. If he can walk without limping, he can run a 10k.
Get the F- lost. I want to hear the decision from the USA team, NOT from some wanker tweet by Solinsky.
He should want to go wherever and whenever he can. He should ALWAYS want to run, and it should be the TEAM that should be holding him back.
You don't see a dog giving up in a fight--you know why? Because they're not pu$$ies, they're not babied wimps. He's not "risking serious injury", give me a break. Where is the competitive spirit? GET YOUR A$$ TO THE DAMN START LINE.
This is not smart, this is not tactical--it's a cop-out.
A hamstring injury affecting a 10k, give me a break.
I can't believe any of you fanboys actually believe Solinsky's crap. How many times will he need to disappoint before you catch on? All the better that he isn't going, for the team. He will not be missed at all by this spectator.
wow, okay with the anger. Let me remind you of the debacle of Bejing '08:
this was widely recognized as one of the worst middle distance and sprint performance (as a country) in memory. We had dropped batons, Teter & co having horrible prelim rounds in the 800, and just bad performances all around. We criticized the athletes for going to the olympics injured and not at the top of their game. We said it was a disgrace to the uniform. We said they should be ashamed and they were greedy for contractual bonuses based on qualifying for the team. We were incensed. However, now, someone wants to say that they cannot perform to the high standards we have demanded of them. However injured they may be, they should line up and limp through a last place, 36:00 10k. Are you serious, you silly douche? I want healthy, peaking, athletes to line up wearing our jersey and representing the country. I would rather he hand it off to someone who can perform on one of our sport's biggest stage, HEALTHY, and do us proud.
BTW, Hoya to a fellow Hoya, BUMBI FOR THE PODIUM!!!!!!
You're an idiot.
Bingo.
And they race infrequently and then wonder why they are such shitty racers.
Everything has to perfect, the table has to be set.
The USA loves winners apparently, and the runners don't feel safe not winning.
Just ask Charlie Sheen
Americans who follow competitive running tend to analyze and criticize, myself included, the best U.S. athletes. We compare them to to runners from other nations, particularly those with a dominant presence like Kenya, Ethiopia and the like. Often, we are disappointed with our runners. Maybe we expect too much and are there is a reason for this. There are not enough high level/elite American runners. Letsrun has many threads on this topic. It's related to the over scrutiny of Sol, Webb, Ritz, et al. If, say, we had a roster of guys rotating at the top, with new ones coming up every year, we would be less prone to despair. We would find less disappoint/let down in a guy like Solinsky and note that he is just one athlete in a sport where the performance level, in terms of top times, is much higher than a generation ago.
While it doesn't seem like a major injury and is probably like a nagging tendinopathy sorta thing, if it is a bad strain then there is no way he could run. He would sorta hobble the first 2 laps and dnf.
The first month after I strained my hammy I couldn't run at all. The next month was 2 miles a day for 3 days a week.
I have certainly said plenty about Oregon runners not being tough enough. And I would agree with you if Sol had been running well through the season. The truth is he only got in one good race--his 1500 PR at Mount Sac. He's been fighting hamstring problems all season.
It takes 6 weeks off for conservative therapy for a serious hamstring injury. Many of us have been there. Chris has been hobbled with this most of the season. I get the impression that he never took the time off (off means no running) needed to allow himself to heal.
I may be an idiot, but there's no F-ing way I would chicken out. They'd have to physically restrain me from getting to the start line.
There are things that can be "done" for the severity of injury he has. He CAN run--it's that he WON'T run.
What a cop-out. What a piece of CRRAAAPP.
He should go hang out with that Webb guy somewhere so they can stroke each other.
What the F is wrong with privileged Americans? What, you think because you have "talent" that you're owed something? It's about WORK, and RESULTS when it matters, you have to make the most of any opportunity you get.
This is exactly why the USA will get its a$$ handed to it at WC's. A whiny bunch of do-nothings who think they're great because they win increasingly slow national meets.
HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU SEE JACKIE JOYNER-KERSEE COMPETING HEAVILY WRAPPED.
HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU NEED TO SEE A DECATHLETE SUSTAIN INJURY BUT GET WRAPPED FOR UPCOMING EVENTS AND FINISH THE DECA.
HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU NEED TO SEE MAURICE GREENE SUSTAIN INJURY IN HEATS OR SEMI'S AND STILL LINE UP FOR THE FINAL, ALL WRAPPED UP.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE BEST TRACK ATHLETES ALL-TIME, NOT ONE-HIT WONDERS LIKE SOLINSKY. YOU KNOW WHY? THEY COMPETE TO WIN. JEOPARDIZING HIS CAREER? WHAT "CAREER"? HE HAS NO CAREER, HE HAS A COUPLE OF RESULTS.
WHAT A LOSER.
He pulled out because of drug testing. END OF THREAD
Funny, I don't recall you making the same speech about Tyson Gay not lining up.
Yes, typical LetsRun MB mudslinging thread. Those who cannot say things in the open so brave on a MB.
Having had a sprint teammate drop mid-race with a hamstring pull and describe the pain and, many years later me (a distance runner!!) tweaking a hamstring I can assure you that is a tough injury to run through. Joint injuries tend to be pain you can foolishly run through at a high level. Muscles tested, especially at WC level, could lead to massive damage. I ran through a similar issue to a calf hoping to run a marathon after training for it for 5-6 months quote seriously. I pulled it so bad I did not race, and the injury haunted me 10 years. So, unless this odd myth of him making it up is true, good tough choice made by CS.
I find good coaches working with highly motivated runners have to work as much at holding them back as anything, helping peak at the right moments, etc. My injury came self-coached, and I did not do the wise thing and tell myself to back off. CS and coach have combined to a tough and wise choice.
lets be honest, if this was anyone other than solinsky we would be screaming drugs.
between the HUGE drop in his 5k/10k times and 'withdrawing' from the heavily drug tested WCs, something is up.
