Not anyone - anyone under the age of 28 who is in university or has graduated less than one year ago.

Just because your f**ked up system has age limits doesn't mean others do, or even should. Last time I looked, there wasn't an age restriction on going to University - this meet is for ANYONE in University. The rest of the world doesn't revolve around the NCAA scholarship system.
paca-man wrote:Yeah this meet is a total sham. I graduated from college over 4 years ago and 5 of the guys in these two heats alone are older than me.
whats wrong with their coach? i've heard some good things about him and it seems like her produces well with guys that aren't as talented as the best recruits
Pete D is an excellent coach - just bs from a typical lets run anonymous whiner who probably got cut or didn't get any attention paid to him. So sad
I didn't go to UCSB but I've heard enough horror stories and had enough close friends/relatives who did to know what's up.
Ran four years under Dolo. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't run for ANY other coach in the country. Ask Steph Rothstein, Tetlo Emmen, Ryan Martin, Cullum...
Small name program, amazing results.
you guys should all post on this thread then:

I'm not sure if I'd call .03 for Martin 'comfortably through.' That being said, there were a lot of 1:45 guys in those heats so it's a good result (see pbs here:http://match.sz2011.org/pdf/AT/ATM004200/ATM004200.C51B.ENG.1.0.pdf) It's also good to see Sameoi running so well again.

Yeah I'm sure Ryan Martin regretted running under Pete Dolan, going from 153 in high school to 145 his 4th year with one year of eligibility left... I'm sure he hates it a lot!
nice to see both guys made the final! USA!!
Regarding Pete Dolan, I have heard both good and bad things about him and his program. He is not your typical college coach, and he has done some very amazing things with runners who have untapped talent entering college.
However, from my experience in talking with him and from hearing things from friends on the team, he has this certain arrogant pride about him...which isn't a bad thing. it's just his way or the highway. Unfortunately A LOT of talented runners who choose his program choose the highway after a year or two because they simply cannot hang with level of commitment he requires from them.
That being said, they usually depart due to frequent injuries
--Pete trains his athletes as if they're all the cream of the crop, much the same as Oregon and Stanford train their runners . By running them into the ground, pounding out the miles and intervals and doing all the small things that can shave off seconds. He asks a lot from his runners and unfortunately a lot of them end up on the sideline due to injuries.
UCSB is also a HUGE distraction by being one of the top party schools in America. Even great runners fall victim to the numerous parties that Isla vista offers.
That being said, I believe he is a great coach. You can check the numerous athletes who have succeeded in his program. He just isn't the right coach for everybody. You just need to have
Pete has been on the job over 20 years so he must be doing something right since UCSB has very little funding and has THE WORST TRACK in the state of California.
