I'll second this recommendation. Read this a couple weeks ago on vacation and had a hard time putting it down. Really puts suffering and internal strength into perspective.

i loved "unbroken" and also recommend "staying the course: a runner's toughest race" by dick beardsley. both books, though unbroken to a greater extent, are about perseverance, faith, and will power. good reads!
Following the Flame is a good one, much like once a runner except more in depth. Almost too long, but still worth a read if your ready to read about the toil, blood, and guts of an olympic dream
Speaking of Beardsley, Duel in the Sun about his infamous battle with Salazar is a great read.
"The Four Minute Mile," by Roger Bannister.
what's ATC?
Don't recall the author, but "The Purple Runner" was great.
Not books but a couple of films that I really like-
Olympiad, Greatest Moments - VHS boxed collection with a lot of huge running moments
Endurance - Geb's story
Mont dick is a great read, especially if you're struggling with drug addiction.

hey all, i'm looking for a book that is both motivating but has some practical training advice in it as well. whats out there?
It's a looooong one, but The Lore of Running offers training, motivation and everything in between.
I second this, Running With The Buffalos was a great read and helped me get through a tough point in my training. It is really well written and I could hardly put the book down. It also helped encourage me to get up early and get my run done with even as I was feeling very very tired.
Running For The Hansons. Not as good as RWTB, but similar type of story.

So *that's* what it's about! I had always thought it was about venereal disease!
Look for "Life At These Speeds" by Jeremy Jackson. It's fiction, but Jeremy is an excellent writer with great prose. I'd highly recommend it. Don't know how much of a runner Jeremy was, but I think that since he is such a good writer, that he was able to create something truly special with that book. Definitely check it out.
I am reading this book right now and so far pretty good. I love the paragrapg on page 127 where Sage writes" Why? Well, why would you try hard at anything in life?..."
Besides, he mentions/refers to LetsRun a few times in the book...:)
Btw, what is RWTB? Sorry, I am a bit slow on abbreviations. Thanks.
Running With the Buffaloes
The Fountainhead
"Best Efforts" by Kenny Moore
"The Olympians" by Seb Coe
Both are stories of the best races or at least following around the best runners of the time. Along those lines "Running with the Legends" by Sandrock is also good but heavier on the biographical details and looks at 17 (I think) superstar runners throughout their career rather than just building up to a race like Moore and Coe do.
For fiction I enjoyed Chasing Ghosts and The Olympian, both have been mentioned earlier.
