Amazing that Coghlan is now behind O'Lionaird on the all-time Irish list... shows what a different era of sport we are moving towards... the type of Prefontaine not making an NCAA Final.

Crazy running, well done to the Irishman.
Didn't see that coming!
He now has a better PB than Solinsky and Centro.

Is Ciaran running at worlds?

The rat only I smell is the one hanging it's tail of the back of Ciaran's head!
Pretty funny video. As fast as these guys are, why don't they just dine and dash everywhere they go? I can't see a bus boy chasing down a 3:34 1500 guy (unless they are in Africa, of course).
Coghlan was nicknamed "The Chairman of the Boards" because of his success on indoor tracks.
No doubt his 3:49.78 in 1983 at New Jersey's Meadowlands INDOOR arena would "smell (like) a rat"

Uh, not really all that surprising. Pre was 39 years ago, brah.
Still a change that he could get named to the team for Daegu if cranks a fast 5K in London this weekend.
Any body think he's on the juice?
Its a big pb, hes raced alot the last month?
just putting it out there!
If he's on anything other than junk food and beer I will personally eat a shoe. Not a chance with this guy. He's just managing the feel decent after a hit and miss collegiate season and to start to reach his potential.
I heard that the race was paced through in 1:54. Most of the 1500m races O'Lionaird has run in Europe were either a win in around 3:40 or where the winner ran 3:40. I believe he has raced 1500's in Cork City, Manchester, and Gent before his 3:34. Getting in the right race can make a big difference.

Not really. If I read correctly, he decided to run the race while sitting in a bar the night before. Maybe the fact that he was relaxed and not thinking about it for the previous week actually helped him. He probably took the "whatever happens, happens" approach, instead of stressing out about it and wasting energy. If he was planning to end his season, maybe he hadn't done a workout in a bit and actually felt fresh for once. (Mind you, I'm just speculating here). I know I showed up to my home XC course one time a week after the season was over just to put in an easy run. I found a race about to start, so I decided to jump in it just for fun. I had taken a couple days off that week, so my legs felt fresh, but I was still in great shape. Believe it or not, I ended up setting a PR. Maybe that's what happened here.
