Anyone know of the training of Kirk Pfeffer? He blazed a 2:10:29 at Fukuoka back in 1980. Just another old guy running fast some twenty years ago.

The rap on Pfeffer, who ran a 2:17 marathon at the age of 17 and briefly looked like the successor to Bill Rodgers among American marathoners, was that he never let up in training. Long hard mileage and lots of injuries.
I trained with Kirk for a few weeks in 1980 in So. Miami Fla. along with Tom Flemming, Guenter Milke of Germany and occasionally Bill Rodgers or others who were around.
We all trained in a similar fashion, the major difference being the number of races (Rodgers nearly every weekend, Fleming almost never) and track workouts.
You can view my log for 1980 for an idea.
I ran with him once in Boulder and Steve Jones scared him away for good. He was one stepping a group of 28 minute guys.
So your trying to explain that Jones was a real hammer in training are you?
