Sally is more zesty and sexy than any of the U.S. girls. She may not get the gold in Daegu but she IS gold.

I think it is fantastic that Sally made the Kenyan team. She is a hard worker and very likable!!! And who cares if she trains in Eugene? Nick Willis, Kim Smith and many other athletes train in this country. We should be excited that our athletes get to train with the Worlds best so we can become the Worlds best.

You, sir (madam), are very wrong. He is coaching two fellow British types.

rules? wrote:Because the OTC is located in the US, they can only train runners that will run for the US? Where is that rule written?
no rule, they should just put there money in American athletes! Not the kenyans!!!!!!!!!!
Why?
The Robertson brothers have gone over to Kenya (and now one to Ethiopia) to train with the best and see where it gets them. Maybe this is more clever. Borrow them and get the same kind of results. :-) And if the runners we borrow are upstanding people like Sally all the better.
Reminds me of Pre bringing Finns to the US, or Salazar bravely arranging for Rono to come run against him. He lost, but certainly was one of the most compelling 10K track races ever run on US soil. If you have never heard of the race, read up. May polish your view of Salazar a bit...far too routinely trashed on the LR boards.
And for the person who said the Kenyan trials are easier than Ethiopian, looks to me like 5 women finished within 8 seconds of each other, top 4 within about 4, at the end of a track 10K and run at altitude. Pretty solid.
Can we kick out all the foreigners training in Iten? Your logic is horrible.

And who else?
OTC's head coach is a Non-American (also British).
Non sequitur, he's not representing Britain in competition nor is he coaching anyone who does.
Chris Thompson and Jemma Simpson.
Saladbar coaches a Brit. It doesn't matter who else he coaches. He understands that if American distance runners want to complete at a world class level, they need to train with world class athletes. Go USA!!

Oh really, then why didn't he invite foreign athletes to the NOP previously?
Picayune wrote:US track clubs should not become training groups for developing foreign elites. You want to become American? Great, get your citizenship squared away first and then you can come on board.
On behalf of the Font-Romeu Chamber of Commerce, I'd like to voice my outrage at all the foreign athletes who come here and spend many months doing altitude training. Heck, Paula Radcliffe practically lives here -- and yet, at the Olympics, she still plans to represent Britain instead of France! WTF?!
Personally, I believe that anybody who leaves their country of origin for more than a week should have to take out new citizenship. If you're REALLY loyal to your home country, you'd never leave it at all. Personally, I've never even left my home town.
Sally is a real doll! Such a classy, classy lady. I see she has a ring on her finger. Is she married and if yes, then who did she marry? And she said she is in school. I thought she got her nursing degree, so is she in a master's program?
Thanks to anyone who answers.

She's married to Kevin Chelimo. They went to Texas Tech together and i think knew each other from Kenya as well. He trains with OTC and ran 27:30 at Payton Jordan.
Not sure about school. Last I heard she was done and concentrating on running.
Sally is in the process of trying to become a U.S. citizen. It takes several years to get that done, so she hasn't completed it yet. So, The OTC is getting Sally ready to help the U.S. It won't be this Olympics but could be the next one in 2016 if everything goes well for her. Congrats Sally and keep kicking butt!!!!!
Thank you to both the above posters. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions, as I am a big fan of Sally.

It's definitely not the former.
Ha ha ha!
I kid you bro.
I had also read the same thing. Perhaps she changed her mind. Who knows?

I think KAA would be hard pressed not to put Sally on the team after such as great performance, but finishing 2nd at the trails is not a guruantee...she still has to be selected. Also, even if she is put on the team, she can be deselected if she has a couple of bad races leading up to Deagu and someone else has some good races who may not have even participated in the trails especially if that athlete is a member of the Army or Police.
...welcome to KAA politics.
On a side note, this says a lot about the quality of the OTC program when when they can put an athlete on the Kenyan team.
Sally Kipyego actually did represent Kenya in either the youth or junior category a few years back.
To be able to do that would only mean one thing; that you are senior nt material.

She has set herself back by representing Kenya in the WC. There is no way she will be running for USA in 2016. I have been through the process and it is way different today than it was 2 years ago.
Now all the hatred for Chris Thompson makes total sense.
N O T ! ! !
Who is Chris Thompson?
dumbest quote of the day...
anybody can go all-out on the bell lap. there real guts are the people who are pushing the pace over 3-4k without the reassurance that there's only one lap to go
I think it was a slightly overweight Pedro Vargas leading her tempo runs that taught her how to get it done at Tech...
