Where was Rob Speare last year? I thought he was in the class of 2011. Anyone know his deal?

he took a year off from school and is planning on competing this upcoming year. He still has eligibility for 1 more season of xc, indoor and outdoor

What happened with the meet vs. Cambridge and Oxford?
H-Y crush O-C, 32-7 (only get point for winning event). Three new meet records were set on the women's side. Dan Chenoweth and Nico Weiler were double winners in the men's competition.

Why would Harvard reserve a NYC park?
Harvard coach would have reserved Franklin Park in Boston, not VCP, but it was not available. Princeton is now under consideration in lieu of VCP but needs to be approved by athletic directors.

ummm... ever heard of kyle merber?
Didn't he sever most of the tendons in his foot on broken glass last year? Is he fully recovered from that? I seem to remember a post near the end of the outdoorseason saying his foot was not anywhere near fully healed.
Fully recovered Merber might have a shot at the 2012 OG team if he steeplechases.(and of course malmo would have to coach him for that to happen). No question he had 3:53-55 potential in the mile .

Several coaches don't like VCP so voted in favor of a switch to Franklin Park, unfortunately they neglected to check availability! When they couldn't get it they asked PU to host the Heps, this needs to be approved by the league, could still go back to VCP.

By the way, gang, it's "Van Cortlandt"--"Cortland" is a DIII SUNY college in Central NY, or else a kind of apple.
Anyway, it looks like the women's meet could be one of the tightest/deepest on record. Princeton has some good returners, plus the usual recruits (and female recruits can often help immediately), yet may not be as dominant as in recent years; Dartmouth should have a tremendous front three, and it may not take a whole lot more than that (to win, or at least podium); Brown returns five who ran 16:30-17:00 on the track at some point last year; Cornell returns the women who ran 1-2 in the Heps 10,000, plus the one who qualified for Nationals last year as a frosh; Harvard has tons of talent; etc. An outstanding team or two (or three) could finish in the bottom half of the Heps meet this year.
Oh, and I'd say that the Columbia women maybe should be the pre-season favorite (or at least co-equal): they graduated almost no one from their outstanding corps of middle- and distance runners, plus word on the street is that they brought in yet another sensational recruiting class.

There were other meets approved for Franklin Park before the application to host the Heps was in. Same situation for more than one other college conference on that weekend.

For men:
Princeton
Dartmouth
Cornell
Columbia
Harvard
Penn
Yale
Brown
Princeton men look like a team that will not only dominate at HEPS but could be top 10 nationally.
It will be interesting to see how good the 2nd and 3rd HEPS teams will be. Could a second ivy team make nationals this year?

That would be awesome. But it is hard to say right now (at least for me) as I need to see the beginning of the season for the men. Princeton could be head and shoulders above the rest.
But would the Princeton women be strong enough to go back to Nationals? Or is that where we get more Ivy teams to the dance?

Any further developments?
I see that Cornell has (most, at least) of its incoming men and women listed on Dyestat. The men seem to have several 9:20 types, but I didn't notice anyone spectacular--the Big Red seem to have fared better in middle-distance recruiting.
The Cornell women seem to have several competent distance runners coming in. Nothing earth-shaking, but they have at least three or four with better times than McMahon posted in high school.
The meet will be at Princeton. Not sure if/how that will affect things, but it is interesting.
You would think Cornell would be the team to beat by now. How many years did Rojo say it was going to take him to get Cornell to Nationals?
Over the last X years it seems like Cornell's distance runners (men and women) have *generally* done somewhat better in track than in cross.
I wonder whether a) that's actually true (I'm talking about the group as a whole, not one or two indivicuals); and b) whether the Big Red could/should modify their summer training for cross to be a bit more like their winter training for track.
Another thing I wonder (having seen something kind of weird at an xc meet): is JKellogg (sp?) involved with the actual coaching, or workout writing, of the Cornell men (officially or unofficially)? If so, why? RoJo seems pretty knowledgeable and experienced at this point.
The coaching staff changes will they make a difference?
Where'd they go? Could definitely play a role for some.
XC Heps will be Saturday 10/29. Perhaps I will be able to go for once now that it is on a weekend and not on a work day.
