Actually, Galen ran 4.58 seconds faster indoors in Birmingham than outdoors in Birmingham. This is not a stunning revelation for those who are smart. OK, sorry for the reference, but back to school for you...

I'm inclined to agree with the OP, even if it is a troll. He beat 2 Ethiopians, granted the best ones barring either of the Bekele's surging back into form, who have been far from dominant lately.
Who knows what unholy s*** will go down at KENYAN Champs and what beasts will therefrom emerge?
Very impressed by Rupp, but he's still untested vs. the real distance running nation - KENYA.

And guess what- you won't see all of the top kenyans/ethiopians at that time in the same race until... the WCs and Olympics. Enough already with the "no one was in the race" bullshit. Dude ran 13:06 off a slow pace, closed very impressively, and beat some legit guys. No, not the greatest runners in history. Anyone on here talking medals has got to stop... it's unrealistic. Let's just be content to see continued improvement and a PB in a race that was more tactical than time trial. Again, (as with the other youngster, Centro) you've gotta love seeing these guys running fast and running smart. It's that mix of being able to race (ie close the final 400-800), and being able to run fast that sets these guys apart and should really have people excited.
Having said all that- given the small fields in WCs, you just never know... if Teg could come within a few hundredths of a second of getting a medal, then I certainly think it's not outside the realm of possibility that Rupp might have a shot in the right situation. Highly unlikely, yes, but at least it's looking like it's not entirely unrealistic.

Shihine, Bekele 1, Bekele 2, Geb, Merga and a few others may tend to disagree with this statement.
That aside, the race today proves a few things. Most relevant to this thread that there is at least one turd who's life is fairly empty, and he's probably going to prove that point further in 1....2.....

Holy **** "Thinking Back," you just cut me to the core. I've only left my squalid apartment twice since Thursday, and fill my weekends-of-no-speaking-to-other-humans with lame attempts at trolling LRC.
It's hitting me my life truly is empty, and for f***'s sake I'm not even a good troll.
Wow...Maybe I should call my parents. I haven't talked to them for a while.
Or hit the store for an 18pack. "Thinking Back," this is one of only 2 or 3 times when I've been walloped by the internet, and wow, I am grateful to you.
Btw, Sihine's in poor form, Bekele won't return, and Geb runs the f***ing marathon. Kenyans own the track now.
Wasn't referring to you and the second sentence(unless you are the OP and using multiple names).
You may not have read thru the entire thread so I am sorry I wasn't more clear about who I was referring to, and yes it was the OP.
You did kind of fly off the handle on that though.
No I'm not the OP, but your comment may have been more apt for me! I need to take a shower or something. Thank you again.

Well, Rupp did run the 740th fastest 5000 ever run. That has to count for something, doesn't it? The fanboys surely must recognize that this means something...
Exactly, because the entire goal of the race was to run for time because there's too much "competitiveness" and not enough time trialing in the sport, and he sure as heck didn't beat any good runners in the race.
Perhaps so, however I suspect that it would build more confidence which cannot be a bad thing.
You seem rather obsessed with Rupp, in a very jealous way.
@Jesse
Man, it sounds like you need to get laid man.. chill.
Galen Rupp was outkicked by Mo Farah. That is all ye know, and all ye need to know. Galen ran 13:06, which is a time that Henry Rono ran 30 years ago. I am happy for Galen. He may be improving. But I will NOT pronounce this as something which I would not have thought him capable of last year. It brings to mind this exchange: "Galen,I ran with Bob Kennedy. I knew Bob Kennedy. Bob Kennedy was a friend of mine. Galen, you're no Bob Kennedy."
Are you f*cking serious - you are a friend of Bob Kennedy! So this means that you used to have 2 friends, Jesse and Bob. Wow, you are impressive, very cool and definately my HERO!
Btw, who ever said Galen was trying to be Bob Kennedy? Sounds like you have some weird, f*cked up obsession with Bob Kennedy - too bad you are unable to acknowledge a great performance from one of our own. Get a life you opinionated retard!

I don't hate Rupp. IF Rupp wins a medal at Daegu or London, I'll be the first to assert that this is a stupendous achievement. It is not likely to happen, and this race does not tell me anything new about Galen. IF it tells you something new, please enlighten me about your previous ignorance...
He's consistent. How many bad races has he had? Actual bad races? He has started most of the races he said he would and he hasn't dropped out and he's done well in pretty much all of them.

You are the most chronic of all the Rupp haters. Why are you so bitter? When Galen takes "real scalps" in Monaco and Worlds, what then will be your excuse?
if Rupp takes real scalps the dude will straight up be in prison. just say'n...
IF it tells you something new, please enlighten me about your previous ignorance...[/quote]
He set a pr that was new
Jesse was a Friend,
I'm curious. You are not really bashing Rupp. You are just saying that Rupp didn't prove anything. In other words, you already knew that Rupp could run a 54 second last lap off of 13:15 pace.
When did Rupp prove to you he could do that?

First of all, Rupp's last 400 was about 54.6, which is nice but not stunning. Second, Rupp proved to me indoors at Birmingham that he could run 13:11 while doing some of the pacesetting, meaning I gathered he could even then have run 13:03 or so in a well-paced race outdoors. For a 13:03 runner who has decent speed, which Rupp has proven with his 1:49.87 indoors, to finish with a last lap of 54.6 off 13:15 pace is not unexpected. IF the runner is not running at his limit, meaning he is running a little faster than his 10,000 pace (which Rupp was), after 4600 meters, he should be able to run a last lap at close to his 800 meter pace, which Rupp did. Sorry that I already knew that Rupp was capable of this.

Next, anytime a sub-13:10 dude sets a pr in the 5K and finishes in a 54, people should get excited.
Lagat has finished a 12:59 in 51.7.

Looks about right. Nothing unusual about the 13:06.86. I would guess Rupp could run 1:49xx, 3:35xx, 7:32xx.
