Any other athlete is fair game too. Rudisha would have the best shot in my opinion.
A more interesting question is how far he could put the shot. I'll say a round 20 meters.
I don't think he has the endurance for the 5000-marathon. I personally think he should move up to the 1500. I think he could run sub 3:30, which would put him close to 3:45-48 for a mile.

NO middle-distance runner could put up sprinter numbers while training for middle-distance.
Hey Sprint Geezer- I bet Rudisha could run 9.85, even mike rodgers can do that!
Bolt is fast due to height - Rodgers runs 9.85 and is only 5-6. I'm sure Rudisha could run ~9.85, even with mid-d training. He is taller than shawn crawford/lemaitre.
Where are the sprinter numbers again?
This thread is too funny.
Sprint Geezer thinks \\\'strength-based 800m runner\\\' means a guy who has more speed than endurance.
Sprint Geezer says that a 22.56 200m is not indicative of sub-12.0 100m speed out of blocks.
Sprint Geezer - all hail the least knowledgeable blowhard on letsrun!
Rudisha ist der Hammer, but the answer is no.
mr sticks! enjoys inventing facts.
mr sticks! thinks that his post is worth reading.

"A "strength-based guy" Rudisha is most certainly not. Your strength got you that extra half second in the first 50m of your 11.55" - Sprint Geezer
"a 22.56 is no big deal, and doesn't say anything about a 100m out of the blocks." - Sprint Geezer
A fool and a liar? Oh me oh my!
Thank-you for so eloquently proving my point for me.
Saved me time, you have.
zing zing zing!
22.5 is nothing. I've run 21.9 yet my best 100m is 11.39.
Most distance runners thing running sub 23 is something special...it isn't. It takes very little talent and just a little bit of work.
I think Rudisha could run sub 22.5 out of blocks, but just barely, if at all, break 12.
You must realize how easy sub 23, but how tough sub 11 is. No way on earth her could hit the 100m or 200m standard.
Those of you who said Wariner couldn't break 4:30 for a mile are insane.
Several decathletes - guys who primarily train to sprint, jump, throw heavy objects, and pole vault - have run a 1500m equivalent to that. To say Wariner couldn't while those guys actually have is as ludicrous as saying Rudisha has any chance at all at 10.07.

Funny you say that, because in Daegu Ashton Eaton won the Decathlon 1500 handily in the equivalent of about 4:38.
Yeah nobody remotely thinks that Rudisha could get close to 10.07.
Also I think Eaton's time was really more like ~4:41 converted.
Nobody thinks breaking 23 is that incredible, but it is sure as shit impressive compared to breaking 12. How could you only run 11.9? Middle school girls run that fast!
I didn't say EVERY decathlete, or most, or the 2011 world champion, I said several.
Several men who have 20 pounds on Wariner and are all fast twitch/strength athletes have in the history of the decathlon run a 4:30 mile equivalent.
Who are you people who think that a guy who everyone on here thinks who could go easily go 1:45 in an 800 couldn't drop back half a freaking minute to split 2:14, do another 2:14, and bring the mile home at 4:30?
Back on the topic of Decathletes, Dan O'Brien was a beast, and his 100m PR is 10.32. The notion that Rudisha could get to 10.07 is one of the most laughable things I've ever seen posted here, and that is saying a lot.
If Rudisha had anything close to the wheels to get to 10.07 in the 100, he'd have been taking home the gold with a runaway world record in the 400, not the 800.
And speaking of 400/800, I don't know what the 1976 A standards were, but I'll bet El Caballo could have gotten the 200m, and maybe even the 100m. On the other side I don't think he could have gone up to even the 1500.
Oh, well, several decathletes go 10.3, so I don't see why Rudisha ought to have a problem going 10.1-10.2.
because David Rudisha is built so much like a decathlete, right. I'm glad you can can take two separate things, garble them into one to suit your purposes, and lose the true meaning of both in the process. You must be a politician in real life. Nicely done.
David Rudisha is a transcendent athlete, and the OP was correct in singling him out on this topic. However, he'd be doing well at 10.70, much less 10.07.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
