The people who were saying he was all legs weren't joking, that's freakish.
Starky was a heck of a runner, but a sad story longterm. He ran hard and drank hard. Last he I heard, he was homeless living under a bridge in Ottawa, claiming he was the Prime Minister.
Malmo,
Do you recall how this one finished?
Stark was a great talent, sad that he never met his potential but the BS about claiming that he was PM of Canada is BS.....
anyone have the results of this race? quite a field.
I just saw Mark Last week, he is a dang good shoe design coordinator these days for Brooks-

Haven't found a Brooks shoe I liked since they got rid of the "chicago marathon" model back in the mid-80's.
Todays shoes are so disappointing.
Any further results? top 25?
rezulten, what was Roche's time/place?
How did Rose do at the Worlds that year?
Nenow, was/is an animal. WR @ Crescent City Classic in mid 80's if my memory serves me correctly? Beautiful diet as well--pizza!
That's a great talk with Mark. It's neat that twenty years later we can get a fresh insight on a personable and thoughtful guy behind the image of "the Beast".

The guy ran a ton of fast times. What did he ever win other than some road races.
When it comes down to it, he's an afternote. And I hate to say it because he was my idol as a kid running those fast 10k's.

That's crazy he ran 7:43 off of the training he did.
And thanks for posting that 10,000 list.
I recall he was in the 89 race where Aouita ran 7:29. I think Nenow was around 7:45 there as well.
He couldn't outkick blazing Pat Porter at the trials in 1988 to get that 3'rd spot but Nenow was screwed since it was hot as hell and it was tactical.
Put him in perfect conditions at Oslo, Lausanne, Brussels, Etc, he was money.
