I did a flat 26.2 mile long run yesterday, so it doesn\'t really apply that well to my trail race, but it is my longest run ever. I ended up running 3:11. I am pretty sure my race will take over 4 hours, maybe 4:30. Is it important to get in some long runs over 4 hours on trails? I was thinking of getting in at least a 26 miler on trails, and possibly a 28 or 30 miler.
The long runs will definitely help me get my nutrition figured out. I ended up taking 3 hammer gels total, at 1:15, 2:00 and 2:40. I had 20 oz of water, 20 oz of heed (like Gatorade) and 20 oz of water with an electrolyte tablet in it. I\'m not sure how much more I need. I had a pretty bad sideache the last 2 or 3 miles, but other than that I was fine. I think that ended up being only about 130 calories per hour.
I might try Hammer Perpetuem instead of Heed, because it has more calories. So maybe 20 oz water, 20 oz Perpetuem and 20 oz with electrolytes plus 3 gels for a 3 hour run? Anyone have any thoughts on this plan?
