what does the pollen count have to be for rupp to scratch, i heard it was 175 at the preclassic when rupp pulled out of that race and salazar said if pollen levels are that high he will never let rupp run.
my guess is if rupp runs, it means the pollen counts are not dangerously high for someone with rupp's medical condition.
if rupp is able to run i say he qualifies easily.
as for the world champs this year and olympics next year, i think the USA should bring an alternate in events rupp qualifies for, just in case pollen levels in daegu and london are too high for rupp to be able to participate.
Do you guys know that Rupp ran at Oregon and won some National Championships there?
Just checking.
hey guys its Galen, can you guys stop making fun of me so much. It gets hard to run when people constantly make fun of me.
It's over for Rupp. Pollen count in London normally is high too.
Why not try as a NBC Broadcaster? he could do better than Carol Lewis.
Around tihs time tomorrow, I will be reminding everyone to look at the SCOREBOARD.
Yes Ryan Foreman Galen did run at Oregon BUT the pollen problem is a problem only in June and early July. This year worse later due to longer winter in Willamette Valley so the levels are very bad for Galen. Question isn't if Galen will run but more will he just run in pack and look to make a move in the last 1000. This would be my guess.

Actually, he doesn't read this site.
He lives in a different world than you.
He has like friends, and a life, and a profession, and a wife, and a great family.
You wish you could say the same.
hahahaha i laughed at every post above mine...
seriously though, this is why letsrun is the best

I marvel at the smoking mirrors and voodoo deceit. Rupp competed in Oregon as a prep, competed extensively as a collegiate...until recently "Pollen" has never been an issue.
I am a firm believer the coddling of Rupp has turned him into the current "Bubbleboy" of professional running. I can't imagine what he would do if he had 12-stitches in his foot.
Go Pre! The biggest balls in the world vs the new Pre??? Biggest "Bubble" in the world.
My suggestion, create large bubble that he can run in much like a hampster ball and watch Rupp destroy everyone.
He's been racing there since high school, he'll be fine
Agreed. He will be fine as he has been training in Colorado and AlSal has made sure he hasn't taken in too much pollen during the past few weeks. If pollen levels are high, and they were near 500 today, they could cause some serious issues for several weeks after a high intensity race. The difference between the Pre Classic and the USATF championship is that the championships is the race that matters as far as making the World Championship team. After racing here, Rupp would have plenty of time to recover before Daegu, where pollen should not be an issue. I suspect that a few people will have serious problems with the pollen, but it doubt it will be Rupp as he has learned how to deal with it for a specific race.

The only way Rupp beats Farah.
Is the CRY-o-Therapy Chamber trackside?
Any word on what workout Alberto will have him do immediately after the race?
He'll win the 10,000 and watch you haters cry and it wont be due to the pollen count.
"Smoking mirrors"?
Loved the LR opening with the Pollen forecast of the day. Will a meteorologist tell me if the air's "Rupp certified" or not? RACE IS TODAY PEOPLE!!
I think the line of thinking, at least according to what AlSal has said, is that pollen doesn't hurt performance but rather hurts recovery. From
http://www.letsrun.com/2011/usatf-10k-0622.php
: "Alberto Salazar has indicated that he thinks Rupp can race well with high pollen, the concern is his recovery."
So if Rupp wants to make worlds, which he presumably does, he will be in the race regardless of Pollen levels.
And if pollen levels don't hurt performance, as AlSal has indicated, then one would think based on past performances and current fitness levels that Rupp will be in the top 3 at USAs.
It then makes sense that he didn't race at Pre b/c his recovery would have been hampered and he may not have been 100% (or as close to 100% as he needs/wants to be) for USAs.
Now, in my mind, it becomes a question of whether he can get the World's standard at USAs versus having to chase the standard after USAs. If his recovery is severely hampered by the pollen levels then he may struggle to get World's standard.
Two things I'm unsure of:
1 - How does pollen hurt performance and also how does it hurt recovery? Anyone with more knowledge who can explain and offer medical information, anecdotal opinion, or anything else?
2 - What place at USAs does a competitor have to get to be eligible to compete at Worlds and what standard does a competitor have to achieve in order to compete at Worlds. Does a competitor have to achieve a different standard depending on how they finish at USAs?

He has the standard. This has been explained numerous times. The 10K window goes back farther than the other events. Hence the 27:10 is his qualifying time.
