It didn't say that. He built up his mileage using the 105 rule and it said 'last week' he ran 22 miles but he started his come back in march.

The 10% rule obviously can't be true all the time. What if you're at 10 MPW, are you supposed to go 10, 11, 12.1, 13.31, 14.641...?

ACtually, there are plenty of studies which have proven that
Poor people can become faster runners.
Running the 10,000 at Prefontaine when the grass pollen level is high will prevent you from making the World Champs team 3 weeks later.
That getting a "second wind" is some big emotional thing where you were really, really trying hard at the end of a race.
A "second wind" actually means you were pacing improperly, became anaerobic, slowed down, became aerobic again, then were able to speed up again.

Agreed. People always have told me I should do it because it reduces the risk of injury, so this spring I made a point of stretching after every run....I was injured twice and miss all but 2 weeks of my season. I have never had too much issue until then, so it did nothing for me when it came to helping reduce the risk of injury.
