I would Check Again on that CheckAgain. Its evens slower overall than that. In the 10K for both the 08 Olympics and 09 WC Bekele ran about a 56 and did so coasting on the final straight away with everyone else running about 60 seconds at best.

Alot has changed since 1960's. The last lap of the 10000m is not faster than the 5000m except for maybe Kenenisa Bekele when he is fit. Last lap of 5000m championship races where the race is often slow then the last lap are often 51-54 for the medalists. In the 10000m in which the Worlds and Olympic haven't been slower than 27:15 for over a decade and a half and only Kenenisa runs the last lap in 53 range everyone else is 56-59.

So in the last several World Championships and few Olympics and probably go farther then that, the 10000m last lap has not been faster then the last lap of the 5000m. So Solinsky would have a better shot at medaling in the 10000m then the 5000m which is dominated by sub 3:33 current and ex 1500m runners.

sorry ryan foreman but bekele ran 53 seconds at the 08 olympics in the 10k. In 09 WC 10k however, the last lap was won in 57 seconds. So both of you are right and wrong.

It should be clear by now that I'm a Solinsky fan.But no, he can't run the kick out of Merga, Lagat, etc. And no, he can't outkick them, no matter how the race goes. That's leg speed.

Chris Solinsky don't have the closing speed to hang with the Africans to medal in the 5000m. He could get lucky but he would first have to have the perfect race on the right day and then get lucky. There are too many 3:30-3:33 5000m (Kenyans, Ethiopians, ex Kenyans, and ex Ethiopians) runners for him to think he can kick with them off any pace in the 5000m.

He should go run the World 10000m and gain the experience of racing 10000m Championships to use at the 2012 Olympics.

You look it up, Azzhole, and provide some LINKS.

Solinsky will probably win a medal at London in 2012.

His delusional comments will not help him win. He's a good runner, but on the world scene thats about it. He's not even a lock to make the W.C. team... so maybe he should worry about that first.

closing in 1:56 last year running 26.59 and his 3.35

this year shows he can run with anybody. Bekela or Fara are the only runners who can outkick him, imo.

Indoors this winter Sol probably had a better 1500 than most of his competition is capable of doing.

Yes Mo Farah has moved up to medal contender in the 10000m after run sub 26:50 this year, but his last 800m was over 2:04. What has Mo Farah done to show he could handle a 1:56 last 800m in a sub 27 minute 10000m race?

You got to be joking that those two are the only ones you think can outkick Solinsky, ever heard of Zersenay, Gebermariam, Merga etc?

Solinsky comes across as really arrogant in that interview

Marga has some serious closing speed, but i don't think the others are capable to outkick Solinski.
