Myles Andrews of Cal-Poly Long Beach split 1:47.71 on the anchor leg of that school's recent 4x8 HSR. If that had been open it would have been #5 all time, just ahead of Alan Webb. So what do you think, LRC: will Myles Andrews go on to join the ranks of Jock and Andrews, Wheating and Symmonds and Robinson? Maybe 1:45 next year?
If it had been open it would have been 1:48-low. Very good run nonetheless. Woulda liked to see him run against Mudd.

No he's not. Mudd has came out of nowhere. He's got so much speed, I think he could honestly go sub 4 in a pro race. He's been under the radar for such a long time, well not anymore.
He has run 4:01 twice, including in the poor-weather NY race where LV ran 3:59 and now he runs a 1:47.09. He could go sub-four in the right high school race. I do not think that Wisconsin just got interested in the last several weeks; Mic (and Jerry) has a good eye for talent and for the individual. Definitely have the sense that team chemistry is important.

Still not as good as Mudd's run - and Andrews has been running for a long time. He was putting in a lot of work back in 7th grade pee wee leagues. Most guys who've been training hard since age 11 - 12 do not improve all that much after HS for some reason.
True, but he used to be a 400 runner. He went to the school of one of my friends his freshman year, and already ran high 50's/low 51's for an open 400. He's only been running the 800 for 3 years as his main event. I've seen him race 4-5 times in person, and almost always he takes the lead from the start and fades, especially when he runs the 1600.
Just ran 1:48.95 at the Stanford Invitational to win his heat.
