Did anyone take note of what Welsey Frazier a tenth grader out of Raleigh accomplished this past weekend? Three high quality races over three days, 5000, 2mile, then won the mile. Why are we not talking about her?
Yes, did take note of this, and we have been talking about her:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4096265Cain looks to dominate at 800, Frazier at 2M - 5K. They may have some great match-ups at 1500 - 1M.
Cain opened up her indoor season with a 2:49.58 1000 last night.. unpushed.. Wow, she just continues to amaze me... The fastest 1000 she ran last year was 2:50.84 and it was the very end of February! Could she go sub 2:45 this year?
Young girl, long cross season. Why grind out a full indoor season too? Wish her the best though.
She really didn't run all that much during XC season. Maybe 7 times?

Add at least 4 more plus league meets.
She ran 2:47.29 in the 1000m yesterday at New Balance Invitational. Pretty impressive for a sophmore. Next up is the Millrose Mile and a rematch with Samantha Nadel. That should be a great race. I'm thinking both might run under 4:45.
yes impressive, she looked very smooth, however only 2 seconds better than her opening race in mid December. Can't wait to see her line up against Nadel. The boy's 1000 winner was more impressive, ever hear of him? We all will now!
2:23:56! For a junior too. Where did that come from? Ben Malone got it done.
Cain looked more impressive than she did at the Hispanic Games. Video:

Factoids about the first and second girls. Bronxville HS's track is 380 meters in lane 1. Mamaroneck HS's track has four equal sides with four short straights (it circles a baseball diamond).

Interesting video. First two guys DQed; cut in after turn 1 instead of turn 2. Malone is in green, wearing No. 6.

That's about 2:13.8 pace for 800m.
The fact that she was in lane 2 for nearly 500 meters along with how smooth she moved the entire race.. She looked un-phased the entire race. SO SMOOTH.
And you are using a constant speed. Her time would be better at the shorter distance. It's closer to a 2:10 which is great for a sophmore in high school.

OKAY
But it's not close to a 2:03 or a 4:17.

SOPHOMORE
She ran 4:17 last spring. Pretty damn good. One to keep an eye on for sure. Lots of talented young runners out there. Sarah Baxter immediately comes to mind. As we all have seen before, many running prodigies just disappear. Time will tell.
Just went back and saw that original post. Yes, it isn't 2:03 but it's early in the season. We'll see how she progresses.

UNFAZED
Wow. She does run in lane 2/3 for most of the race until she takes the lead. That's a second or two right there. And if she continues to get faster she could put down a nasty time.
Also, last year she did well indoors, but really started hitting her stride in April outdoors. If we see a similar trend this year, it's going to be a crazy spring. She did change coaches which concerns me, but training with the boys now could help her a lot too.
