Didn't she average faster than 73 per lap? Therefore, 73 is not an impressive final lap.

Looks like somebody failed elementary school math... 9:54.22/3218 x 400 = ???73.86!!!
Just because she didn't drop a 56 doesn't mean it was not an impressive run. Hell, the fact that it was just under her average pace suggests she ran an almost perfectly paced race, and didn't have tons left over in the tank. Well done Aisling on an impressive run!
3200 equivalent time works out to 73.9 sec/lap.
Great run by Cuffe! Pretty phenomenal senior year.

Pretty phenomenal senior year for Kayla Beattie as well! Congrats to the both of them. Very very gracious and well-rounded athletes.
Totally understand your frustration.
The problem is the owners of this site/board.
They don't give a sh*t about monitoring this board...so any thread that gets put up on anything, has some teenage d*ckhead, or some old sour p*ssy immediately post something to sh*t on it, or snark it, or try to be funny (usually they aren't).
Best approach, don't take them seriously and point them out for the idiots they be.
So, how does this compare with 16 yr old Jessica Judds 9.08.5 3000 m run earlier this year ?
One person on this thread says something negative and you two have to go into a rant? Shut-up!
Awesome race Aisling.
Seek the truth is right. From reading these boards, one would think that many runners are merely narcissistic, self absorbed negative people. Cuffe's performance is great, and really, to be anything else other than encouraging with high school athletes is just off base. I don't think the answer is monitoring by the Brothers Johnson, though. Merely consistently calling out these self-absorbed types (and often misogynist) types for what they are should suffice.
I do have one observation about Cuffe that cannot be taken as anything other than a compliment. She reminds me of a female version of John Treacy - especially with the forward push to her form. One can hope she masters cross country as well as Treacy did - but for now, I hope she truly enjoys her sub 10 minute performance.
That is the "espn" culture people have grown up with. It really is quite sickening.
Lynn Bjorkland did 9:08.6 in 1975. Still a High School record.

No wonder we can't get the masses to follow this sport!!!!!!!!!
Wrong. All message boards, for all sports and non-sports, are negative. That's just the internet. T+F isn't popular because it's BORING. I like it, you like it, but that's because we've done it. It's boring to watch people run around in a circle. Get over yourself.
Congratulations to Cuffe, this is pretty sweet.
Well said! . . . but Mary Cain is better
Ditto! Major props to Ashling!!!!!!!!!!! She rocked Footlocker with a fast time, now breaks the HS girl's 2 mile (a record previously held by Melody Fairchild, no less)!
You guys are idiots. The guy wasn't tearing down cuffe's performance at all...when someone runs a 2 mile that averages 73 seconds/lap, one would assume that the last lap was at least that fast (if not faster due to a kick). The race was an unbelievable performance, but the last lap was not what made it unbelievable. It was bizarre of the poster to point out that she ran a 73 last lap, because that wasn't what was noteworthy about the race at all. Jesus christ.

agreed...
I can't believe the couple posters going on a holy rant about track fans because someone had the gall to point out that a 73 second last lap was not that impressive considering the entire awesome run. Her pacing was what was awesome not her last lap.
Some of you need to just calm down just a little bit with the holier than thou attitudes.
She had a great run one of the best runs of the year. Congratulations
The website has Hasay holds the junior record at 9:52... So, obviously, 9:54 is no record....
Junior J 9:52.13 Jordan Hasay Mission Prep, CA May 31 2008
Thats 3200, not 2Mile time. Jordan never broke 10 minutes in the full 2mile
I don't share your crude language but I agree whole-heartedly with your analysis!!!
It seems that most runners don't have the humility to recognize greatness in others.
It's like this: I know I can't pass and read defenses like Brett Favre, I can't move, jump, and shoot like Michael Jordan, but I could be as fast as Chris Solinsky, or Lagat, or Goucher, or whomever, if only............
And then the idiots tear them down and apart. Oh well, such is life.
Congrats to her on an outstanding time! Girls have really been picking it up lately!
Where is she headed?
