I was at Icahn - the pace slowed to around 64 for the second lap, so LV just started motoring with around 600 to go. awesome display of mental toughness - he decided not just to go for the win but for the sub 4 and was all alone for the last lap or so.
Dude is very impressive.
LV 3:59.72!!!!!!

LV is not American.

Good God. Why not just savor the fact that an American boy ran sub-4:00?!
LV is in the process of becoming American so he might as well be one for all intents and purposes. He went to school here so I don't get what the big deal is and he is now of legal age no matter what for a senior cause he skipped a grade. As for being the best ever in HS, I don't know yet. Its different eras so its hard to tell. But, Ryun beat Peter Snell, an Olympic champion miler while he was in high school so I still think Lukas has a ways to go. I think we might safely call the him the greatest pure distance runner ever in high school. He's dominated XC for two years, similar to how Ritz did it but no Alan Webb to challenge, and they didn't have NTN. Although Ritz got 3rd in World Junior XC, Im pretty sure he would never have been able to run 8:29 and 3:59. I think German was close but German doesn't have the national XC titles LV racked up. Its tough. Right now I would put him right behind Ryun and Lindgren. You have to be world class in high school to be Ryun and LV though good is not quite world class yet. -
Blah Blah Blah. He is not a true HSchooler.

Yep. What you say is pure drivel. -

You mean his first 2 years. -
Get bent. I just mentioned the fact that he isn't an American. I like the kid. He's a great athlete and will represent the US well in the future, but he's still not an American at this time.

Knock, knock.

Who's there?

The police.

LV:
Comes to America to get citizenship (ie: he actually worked to be an american, unlike most of the idiots on here)
breaks 4 in a HS only race. No one but Ryun has ever done this.
runs an 8:29 two mile.
Is a two time footlocker champ.
Completed a 2 day mile/2 mile/5k triple against (many of) the best in the country.
Clearly we must start shitting on his accomplishments immediately. -

I didn't say didn't you like LV. I was just pointing out he is in the process of getting his citizenship and what I thought of it. -
Anyone who claims LV is the greatest high school runner ever has a really poor memory. Everyone seems to forget this little thing called world cross, where he got a bronze. LV is great, don't get me wrong. But come on now, Ritz (even if it was just one championship race) raced with the best in the world, and got a bronze. Much more impressive than the mile that was just run.

No one is shitting on his accomplishments; however, when someone says that is the greatest US HS schooler ever, then you do need to make sure we compare apples to apples and not apples to tomatoes.

First to ever do the triple at indoor nats
Honesty i'm a bit torn. I want to see LV pushed in the mile like Webb was to see what he got.
I think Webb could have won the 800/mile/2mile at nats if he had done it indoors. Tripling when you're that good doesn't neccesarily add anything,. LV did not have a hard field in the 5k. I think Webb could have broken 8:30 in a similar attempt outdoors when he did his 3:53 (his coach thought he could do 8:25). He went 1:47, and i don't doubt in 3:53 shape off a lot of speed stuff that he could have gone the HSR in the 800 as well.
It's all a lot of would, coulda....Webb had the tools to hold 3 NR's outdoors. He only went after the mile though, and did so in grand fashion.
Now i'd probably put LV ahead of Rupp, but i'm not sure about GF. GF was only 17, a year younger than LV, and ran insane times unpressed. As an 18 year old, he went 3:55i/7:47i and 13:25 outdoors. We'll never have a fair comparison because GF was so young. -
If you don't think his accomplishments put him in the running for best HS runner ever, you've already made up your mind.

seems to me like you are valuing world cross too much. 829 and 359 is more mpressive than ritz. there are other guys to compare to, but i think lv has ritz beat. -
Gah, the kid has competed for the US in international competition. He's American.

Yeah, the difference between college and high school training is way, way less important than being a year older -
Does he have an american passport ? He could not have competed as an american without it. Please present your facts of his status , it sounds like you are guessing ?

you people are a joke, a young man does awesome and you want to thank its nothing. YOU AREW A JOKE ALL OFF YOU!!!!!
