It always seems like the most bone-headed decisions each year are made by track and field officials, whether it’s disqualifying a runner or team for a string on a wrist, the wrong color of underwear, or a shout out in frustration. They just can’t seem to understand that these kids invested four years for a single opportunity and that their own Napoleon complex continues to be a detriment to the sport.
We all understand that if safety is important and if there was a chance of lightening, they should have had those fans off of the metal stands long ago. But seriously, the idea that a handful of runners on a rubberized track were in such great danger so as to stop a race with a couple of minutes to go is laughable. The runners and officials all seemed to be standing around after the race. Where did they all go in the next 2 minutes that was safer?
It’s just another example of the bone-headed T&F establishment at the HS level. Hal are you there?
But don't worry about these boys being cheated. They will have no problem in being successful at the next level to the extent that their will and talent can take them. I think they are leaving NJ and going to CA. Well, at least they won't need to deal with NJ T&F officials anymore.
They should not change anything about their original schedule.
