If HS Alan Webb or HS Ritz was in this race they would have put that 2mile record where Fernandez and Lukas couldn't touch it. See how stupid that sounds. Quit whining about Fernandez. Lukas is the better HS runner by all accounts now. Hopefully he won't become a has been like Fernandez.

Lukas had the privilege to run with such talented athletes that helped him out (hint: he got help to break the record, he didn’t do it on his own). If the high school German Fernandez was in this race, he would have gone faster than 8:29.
Of course he did it! I predicted 8:28! Being a year older than German and running with the "Pro"s and of course, this is exactly what you'r gonna get! What is even more obvious is that Lukas's father is actually Dieter Baumann! Look at their bodies, strides and posture similarities, they are one and the same! This needs to come out! Lukas's father is never mentioned in all of the interviews - ever wonder why? The transference of genetic material and talent is now complete!

i'M GLAD NBC didn't mention it. he was sucked along, a non factor. Webb's mile was more impressive as was german's solo effort.
Hate to break it to you, but Webb was sucked along, a non factor also, hardly Jim Ryun beating Peter Snell. As far as German's "solo" effort, please, go watch that race again, he was being pushed from behind, just enough to keep him clicking off even splits, but not seriously threatened where he pull a "German."
THAT IS WHY HE WAS RUNNING! WORLD CLASS COMPETITION PRODUCES RECORD! GREAT JOB L.V. YOU FINALLY GOT IT!
THAT SON OF A DIETER BAUMANN!!!!!!!

The reason Webb's record was more touted was because he was in the freaking race. LV was last, and he's not even American.

Lukas almost beat a 3:49 miler, he might just beat Webb\'s mile yet.

Been an American since early fall last year.

Might want to check the flag next to his name in the results.
http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/dlm/eventcode=4736/sex=M/discCode=2MLS/result.html#M2MLSEasy does it. Getting way ahead of yourself there, that would be a 10 second PR for him. Let's see if he can run under 4 first, that would be a big accomplishment.
He might not have changed his allegiance with the iaaf yet, but he is an American citizen, he is also retaining his Lithuanian citizenship.

A 3:59 looks pretty likely.
Congrats to Lukas. Hopefully he is happy with his record. It is certainly a fast time.
Having said that, I think that perhaps he'd be a bit more of a hero and role model if he'd actually run track with his high school team, trained with them, and run this record in a high school meet like New Balance Nationals, where he'd actually raced and won the race. I've never liked "pro" high school kids. I know Webb and others have run with pros. To me these aren't high school records - they are pro races run by high school aged kids. But I'm sort of old school.
He runs the Adidas mile with high school kids next Saturday in NY. He'll probably win that one, but hopefully it will at least be a race.
Congratulations on a 19-year-old Lithuanian kid taking down a U.S. high school record. That's the age of a college sophomore! Makes me feel all proud to be an American and shit. Racists will say, "at least he's white."
He's 18, he skipped from sophomore to senior year to make up for his age. And 19 is usually the age of a college freshman, not sophomore.
If you were that "old school", you would realize that both Lindgren's indoor 2 mile record and Nelson's old outdoor 2 mile record were run with pro competition. Trust me, I'd like it more too if he had broken the record in high school only competition, but rest assured - he's not somehow "defying history" by breaking a record alongside pro runners. That's been going on for years.

Yep, I'm sure what you say is correct.
And I'm sure lots and lots of track fans are excited about this. It just sort of leaves me flat, like a treadmill record or something. Now when I heard about the Indiana kid running 4:03 and 1:49 at his state meet, plus doing a relay with his team, that sent chills down my spine and I really wish I'd been there to see it. Not this one. But that's just me - we're all different, eh?
Koech is younger than Verzbicas (he's about 17 and a half) and came in 3rd at 8:14.16.
No recognition...
Guys, guys....
I'm a huge GF fan. I was when I ran in hs, and still am. But for all intents and purposes, the record is toast. Convincingly toast. 19 or not, LV ran one heck of a race, alongside or behind whatever level of competition there was. The fact of the matter is, whether he got "sucked in" or not, he still ran a huge PR, an American Prep record, and a huge improvement over my favorite all time hs distance runner.
I wish Lukas all the best. I STILL think German is a great hs runner, who will one day be a great Pro runner. But LV beat the record, fair and square.
The only thing that bugs me about the 2 mile record, is that since it breaks later in the season than 3200 meter records, the TWO MILE is often faster than the shorter distance record for the 3200.
For instance, as it stands, the TWO MILE is now 8:29. - something, and the 3200 is 8:34.23. PLEASE fix this, someone. It just isn't right. Will LV ever get a shot at the 3200 record he can beat? (serious question.)
And I hope GF makes good, too.
