I saw this thread and the 41 responses and got excited, but its 41 responses of semantic quibbling. Anyway, how about some predictions for Rupp's placing? I'm gonna say he'll get in the 6th to 8th range.

Hot damn, this is gonna be a race!
Not that I think he'd be a contender or anything, but Coolsaet decided to drop the race.
Agreed though, this field is ridiculous.

If Joe Blow is in 2:15 shape for a marathon he can run 2:15 whether he is Bill Rodgers or Terrance Mayhon, it does not matter. Words mean things, you can't just say them and try to change their meaning around, when you screw up.
Is this an attempt at humor? oh please and clear up the bs made perfect sense. It's everyone else that isn't making much sense.
Let's get back to the main point:
If Rupp can break Solinsky's American Record, I think he'll probably break Solinsky's American Record.
props to the local reporter/writer for getting rupp's pr wrong in the article...

He made sense but it was a non comment. Essentially, if Rupp is in faster shape than that required to break Solinsky's record, then he has a shot a breaking Solinksy's record.
True, but not at all useful. When everyone noted that, he got all bent out of shape and tried to make it seem like his post was somehow more profound than it is.
Am I the only one that caught the fact that the article lists Rupp's PR as 27:33.48? Could have sworn he ran around 27:10 in the race where Solinski set the R.R. Did I dream that up or did the writer/editor not do their homework?
Sorry, meant "A.R." (American Record)

I'll play along. Third place in 26:49 (but gets beat by 15 seconds.)

What does someone's religion have to do with anything.

I assume you mean it is rare because the degree is so low?
Figured that out all by yourself, did ya?

If Rupp even comes close to record I'll eat my hat.
I'm guessing that my hat is quite safe.
What is close? I'll eat my hat if he races but doesn't PR.

Yes, and if you are putting us in the same category, then I, in the most mature way possible, suggest that you learn how to think...

You sir, are a jackass. I wish I had the kind of time on my hands that you must.
Hopefully Rupp is in form and takes a crack at the AR. I'm certainly excited to see how this all plays out
