The stadium at William and Mary was built in 1935 with a grant from Roosevelt's Public Works Administration. Funds from the administration could not be earmarked for athletic use. It is rumored that, in order to qualify for funds, the College masked the project as a stockyard or facility for agricultural expositions.
The architecture adheres to the unique neo-Georgian architecture prominently featured by other buildings on campus.
