Coogan was an Olympic Marathoner - Athens '96.
Athens was 2004. Coogan ran in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

Poster was probably thinking of Mark Croghan, steeplechaser, 5th at the WC, 1993

Thanks.
I thought I was going to have to ask for pics.

As for the Dartmouth program, the OP said it wasn't "historically been a track/XC powerhouse," but I believe the Dartmouth women dominated Heps in the 1990s and finished 5th and 4th as a team at the NCCA XC Championships in that decade.
Amazing run by this freshman. The Letsrun write-up said they had 13 girls under 5:00 this year?!?!? That is a program on the rise.
Do you have a link to the article?
Another third place at a national competition for Abbey, and just behind two of the best, Reid and Hasay:
abbey is the real deal
She seems very nice and genuine - hasn't been to Nike charm school.
Also very cool for Coogan. His daughter - a frosh at G'town - was the Hoya's fifth runner and likely grabbed the national title for them. I bet he is having a very Happy Thanksgiving this year!
shes a massive talent, out of masco.
ran great as a frosh and sophomore,
Ran into lots of troubles with Emerging Elites...some BS program that charges serious $$$ to break kids down.
5 days after her xc all state race sophomore year she was seen out on the track running some intervals. thats all EE does....
Wow this is ridiculous... a year younger than Hasay and already close to the same level is HUGE considering Hasay was one of the greatest HS runners ever. Just goes to show how much hard work will take you places.

that was after her senior year per direction of Emerging Elites. They also destroyed Mark Amirault, took him 2-3 year to recover from the damage they did to him and he had a good end to his college career.
She is mega-talented. Such a smooth and powerful form and improving rapidly, aerobically. She hung tough through that hard pace and had a great kick - just a second too shy to pull off the upset win.
Look for some fast PRs this spring and an outside chance at the Olympics in the 5000 if she stays healthy and keeps improving steadily. No limits on this one. Jordan definitely does not have next year's NCAA XC title sewn up.
It is refreshing to see the quality of young women's times & performances from this race.
EE is that Fred tressler?
That guy was always about the money--same with the old Boston running club.
Is it just me or does Abbie Dags just look more like an elite athlete than Reid or especially Hassay? Hard to put into words, but she just looks more powerful and efficient and elegant.
it's like she has already made her legs as muscular as a pro -
http://www.letsrun.com/photos/2011/ncaaxcwomen/imagepages/image139.phpI'm thinking she has to be the favorite for NCAA XC 2012 unless some Kenyan shows up.
yes
well there is a very consistent runner named Jordan Hasay that I think still holds the favorite position, but Abbey is a close second. Jordan is as hungry as you could be for this title and she has the experience of all these close losses to sheila to keep her fueled. of course, a kenyan could appear and do what Lawi Lalang did to Chris Derrick and the rest of them

Taking the trajectories into account, I agree with the poster who said that Abbey is the favorite for the moment. All of the top three are great for the sport. Impressive performers and great poise in interviews. Very bright futures all.

Yea, it is fred, now he has his fat son doing some coaching with him, kid doesn't know anything about running, although he did get his USATF Level 1 so he is an expert.
These two make a living lying to HS kids and badmouthing HS coaches. Real jerks.
Usually takes the kids a couple of years to rebound from the bad coaching they get at submerging elites. Abby got it back quick with the help of Coogan, he has a done a great job with her.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
