Igy, you respond sometimes with a symbol but all I see on my PC laptop is a tiny square. Maybe you have a Mac or something.
Just a wink and a smile. I find your posts entertaining.

I've been called worse things than entertaining.

Believe me it is a compliment. Refreshing. Much preferred over my tormentors championing their social morality versus my alleged immorality.
Pages and pages of the same two trolls trying to out-troll each other. It’s like those cases in the mental hospital when the two crazy people that believe they are Jesus meet and try to out-Jesus each other.
8/13/20 Thursday 645am 61.5 yo male 150lb.
4mile easy to moderate to the track including strides & stretching. 4x 400m @75,72,74,74 all with 3min R walk. 5min break walk jog 3x 100m @ 16, 16, 15 all with 2min R walk. 4mile moderate back to the house. Hard work out but felt good after. Tempature 76deg humidity high and dew point higher.
Cheers to yall.
Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. I ran 5:25 this morning for my one mile time trial. The loop I run on is mostly gravel back alleys, with some grass. I'm sure the track would make it easier, but maybe not as fun. Cheers!

Anybody get complete nonsense from a Garmin on estimated times?
I'm 63 and off a steady run of 5 miles (out and back course so no gain from down hill or following wind) at 6:53 per mile and average HR of 133 (min 38, max 165) it gave a V02 max of 61, but the really crazy bit is the estimated 5k or 16:47, something I haven't seen since my late 40's and would be a 13:20 age graded effort.
The marathon prediction is faster than I ran in my late 30s (although I sucked much passed 5k, passed 3k really).
Anyway I'd gladly take 2:30 min slower than the prediction, and I wondered if anyone else is getting similarly crazy results?
*Week 480*
Greetings 50+ers! Man, so much happening on the thread, some new faces (welcome,) and nice training/racing results. Meanwhile, I've been effectively AWOL; mired in shtuff (the h is intentional.) I've made no progress, but the back is feeling a little better, still a lot of stiffness. It'll continue to be a rough work week this coming week. Hopefully, once classes start rolling I can take more time for myself. My wife certainly hopes so...
Have a wonderful week and keep up the great work. Stay safe out there!
All the Best!
lucKY: Hope things improve for you. So, if ya’ll had a giant outbreak and everyone had to go home would that be a good thing….or a bad thing? I got booted from my one day a week in the office. Still not sure if that’s good or bad.
Cavorty: I was surprised at the depth of the Garmin data once I started looking. Garmin sure has an impressive array of reports if you dig into it. “Vertical Oscillation, GCT Balance…. etc.…” Good lord! I’m willing to bet the formula’s they use are accurate but they are totally dependent on input from the device…. which…. I think can be pretty inaccurate. You know, the old programming lingo “garbage in, garbage out”.
Cheptegei 5K Record: Just so amazing. I really did not think Bekele’s record would fall for years and years. Filed under “it’s all relative”, can you imagine being a 13:01 guy and thinking, “dang, that’s 25 seconds faster than me….”
M-F = Walk 3 miles each day
Sa = 3 miles easy
Su = 4 miles easy
M, W, F = 3 X (9 exercises X 15 reps) 15 lb. dumbbells
Took it easy to heal up that Gluteus minimus muscle. Looking back over the cause I can’t help but think it’s not a coincidence that the elliptical work I did earlier altered the mechanics of my hips. That and the heat, which, now two summers in a row has given me first, a pulled calf in 2019, and now, functionally, a pulled hip muscle. HEAT = BAD, COLD = GOOD.
I really tried to like walking. I even googled all kinds of info to cherry-pick to justify it in my mind (I’m sure I’m the only person that ever googles stuff to justify my position…). I even went to the extreme measure of yanking out the ANT stick to my Garmin and I put it in the drawer.
Didn’t work.
Make it a good week!
No running this week. Calf was still sore from Sunday.
Mon. 48 min kayak.
Tue. 80 min mtn bike.
Wed. 5 km/45 min hike, tried a bit of jogging but was sore.
Thu. 48 min kayak.
Fri. 75 min mtn bike.
Sat. 75 min mtn bike.
Sun. 75 min mtn bike.
Paddling and riding strong. I will just wait on the calf. I am pretty fit so will just keep hitting up the "fluffy" stuff until it is right.
Cavorty if the 6:53 for 5 miles at 138bpm is correct you are in great shape! What is your RHR and your MHR? JDs vDOT of 61 easy pace is 7flat ....16:49.
Effects of aging on vDOT would be an interesting study.
WAG vDOT not do accurate as we age.
Fur instance I can run 7 minute pace at 144bpm which is about 70 percent of mhr but the effort feels like about 80 percent of mhr. Even though my rhr and mhr are the same now at 64 as they were in my eary 40s.
Slogged 50 minutes every day except for a couple of faster days:
Monday
6x75" sand dune medium effort full recovery
2x30" sand dune all out full recovery
5 minutes fartlek rolling twisty dirt trail
Wednesday
3x a mile up a slight hill worth about 20 seconds full recovery
7:00 hr 132
6:45 hr 140
6:30 hr 148
Building a big base which I enjoy

Biggest mileage week since last fall. Yesterday broke my rule of "no consecutive days," and knees are complaining today.
Friday's 4-miler was a hard effort, start to finish. Final mile equaled my 1-mile time trial from June 28, that seems like progress. Looking to schedule another TT this week.
