More like a bottle of Mad Dog in my case!
Video unedited virtual rules just saying
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ji16v1sgqQ&feature=youtu.be800 TT old wavy 2:34.81 74.42,80.39 83.46 age 63
-Optimism that I can break 2:30 in 3 months when I turn 64:
1.First sustained HARD EFFORT since sept 2019
2.Track built on shifting sand that has a bunch of small wavy hills
3.Motivated as this was a BLAST.
Details
At 200 36.xx but felt too hard
Not enough rest after the 200 warmup in 37 took 4 minutes
Remember it like yesterday 42 ran my first mile(1500) Race/TT in 4:36.
Enjoyed way more than any of those batan death marches (anything longer than a mile). But stuck with the 5000 as I wanted to break 16.Turned 43 broke 16 off base then focused on the mile/1500 cause that is what my training parnter was doing. Progressed to 4:13 and had dreams of sub 4 1500 by 45. Lower leg Injuries ended the honeymoon.
Twenty Years Later OMG!
I ran my first 2 lapper on the track TT/Race. Well 2 years ago I ran a 2:40 at South Eugene but I was trying to run 4 flat for 1200 but my left hammy said no.
At 400 74:42 pleasant surprise So gave me a boost
At 600 1:52.xx On pace for 2:30! So big motivation
Last 200 42.xx Just got tired form broke down not used to this
Last 30 meters Decent finish maybe all this nueromuscular dev of x fibers?
Nice work. Too bad Portland Masters was cancelled. Nice touch with bird crowing in the background.

I am looking ahead to turning 65 in 15 months as running 2:30 in the new age group would be interesting.
Song for my video Remember Grrrirls just like to have fun except done by
Weird Al Yankovic singing Old Guys just like to run
I am going to post my pre TT ramble video in a nutshell at my age you better be having fun running.
Post effort my legs feel great!
I like your Weird Al choice. When I was coaching the distance gals liked to ride in my van. Madonna came on the radio “Like a Virgin.” I started singing new lyrics “I’m not a virgin, touch me many times....” A week or so later one of the women said “Coach, you ruined that song for me.” :)

It is a new world , one I enjoy. Youtube is just a way to express sincere emotion. My excitement and sense of accomplishment is just that . I spent the last 7 or 8 months trying out a new way to train that is enjoyable easy on my body low stress and apparently works. Works not on the big stage of top dogs which has always been a sorry Charlie kinda deal. So I am crowing with delight!
I enjoy your videos. Brings out your personality, also providing us both information and inspiration. Keep up the good work.
Thanks shoulda posted the preamble to this TT as it gives some context ie lots of self doubt;)
Wish others would share I would love to see Mike Ls mile TT. Except for a few it is all about effort
relative to where in life we are.
Preamble to the 800 TT no confidence what so ever:

You just ruined it for me too.

Oh I’m game. Global Run Day is June 3 and Road Runner has this cheap virtual 10K going. I’ve asked my sister to pace me on her bike. To quote a very stable genius, what the hell have you got to lose?
https://lp.runwithstride.com/virtual-raceTerrific Charlie.
What are those little warm-up back kicks you do from the push-up position before you start?
Thanks PTF that was probably my 2nd best effort this come back which is now 42 months long.
Activates my glutes so the hamstrings don't have to work as hard.
Prior to hitting the track I did a 40 minute jog in the dunes with 3 x hill 26,24,22. Also do the std leg swings almost every day.
Link to my 8 minute warmp routine . 2 x 100 , 200 then 4 minutes rest needed more rest
Happy recent birthdays KP and rdb.
Nice TT Charlie, that's moving.
I did 15K on a blustery morning the other week, trying to break an hour; didn't quite get there but it was a good outing (6:31 pace at 5450 elev.). Like Arnold, I'll be back (Boilermaker week).
Doing a 10K this weekend for Bolder Boulder continuity and the team challenge, of which many of the top M60+ USATF teams are participating with (RunningProf blog/Paul Carlin had a short blurb in his latest entry last week). Only 3 runners ever in my age have gone under 40 for 10K in BB, so I'm going for that list, even though it won't be official. The race itself is postponed to Labor Day but I doubt they'll be able to pull that off this year.

Thanks Charlie...
Nice solo 800 Charlie. Reckon you are in 2:29.99 shape with no work out before and a 74 - 75 lap strategy. Keep up the solid work and trials.
Fairly good track session for me following the progressive LSD last Sat and middle distance speed session Tue. Gotta do those 600s...
4 x 200 @ 39-38 (200 rest)
5 x 600 @ 2:00-1:57 (600 rest)
Tomorrow is another progressive LSD.
I'm following my coaches plan from 2015 where I ran 4:34 for 1500 and 2:11 for 800 at age 55. Figuring everything is about 5% slower at age 60.
*Week 468*
Greeetings, 50+ers! A respectful Memorial Day weekend to you! I hope that you are keeping safe as many states are starting to reopen their economies. I'm seeing a lot of people being cavalier about it (unfortunately.) There are definitely stores I'm going to be avoiding for a while, where neither the shopkeepers nor the patrons are practicing appropriate measures as mandated (though largely unenforceable) by the state.
My weeks continue to be uninspiring walks. I had online boot camp training for the upgraded Learning Management System (Blackboard Ultra) that sucked up most of my week. The idea is to get to where all courses have a robust online component and can quickly be shifted to fully online if we need to without the panic that ensued this past spring term. Add to it some pretty crappy weather at the start of the week, and I only got out for five walks this week, Tues-Sat, for a total of 19 miles. Saturday was 5.1 miles at 14:30/mi avg. walking pace. Just glad to be getting out, but still all the same physical gripes of previous weeks.
Great to see the return of a few folk and some solid time trials. Envious of some folks easy access to tracks. I hope racerdb and amk can get some resolution to their concerns. Have a good rest of the long weekend, y'all. The wife and I are pretty much staying put for the next while. As always, I look forward to reading about your week.
All the Best!
PS-is it just me, or are the pop-up ads on LR getting even more invasive?
lucKY: I too am so very tired of all of this online everything. I’m still rooting for you to get some type of treadmill that lets you train around your nutty schedule. Nothing wrong with a couple of miles at 11:52pm…..
CM: Holy Cow on that 6:31 pace! Nice!
AMK and Racerdb: You both are extremely intelligent runners with deep experience in treating injuries. Just be patient and trust your knowledge.
Mon = 29 minutes elliptical
Tue = 4 miles treadmill with 3@8:20 pace (major flooding)
Wed = 30 minutes elliptical
Thr = 4 miles easy in pouring rain (had to run to the river to watch the flood)
Fri = 31 minutes elliptical
Sat = 4 miles paved greenway 3@7:40 pace, (7:38, 7:46, 7:35).
Sun = 4 miles easy back on the greenway, finally
A good running week. It’s been one nutty weather week after the other. We had 11 inches of rain M-Th. Record lowest daily high on Wednesday. I’ve never had to flip-flop the heat pump back and forth between heat and AC so much since….well….since there were heat pumps!
My legs are finally feeling more strong than sore from the elliptical. Guess I’m a slow Lerner/trainer.
Rtype M61.34
DANG KP that's one badd ass 200 / 600 session right there...sub 5:00 at 60?
Congrats Charlie on the 2:34 time trial...impressive.
Down week for me...had a LONG overdue cortisone shot in my foot and so am patiently recovering (but the knuckleheaded 'streak' remains in tact)...hope to ramp things back up in another couple days. SO look forward to getting on a 400 meter oval for the first time in nearly 3 months.
Stay steady everybody.
your pal,
MF
We have had a wet and cool May so far, but looks like we will end the month near 100 degrees. The yard looks nice with the rain and extra lockdown time to piddle around the house. I find it hard to get motivated with all the race cancellations, the latest the Idaho Senior Games which was scheduled for the first and second weeks of August. So much for my age 70 debut.
I did start a training plan this week with two running specific workouts (21 miles). Next week I plan moving to three running workouts with one gym session. The YMCA is limiting time for members to one hour. I should be able to squeeze in a spin, core exercises, and a set of free weights. They are encouraging members to wear masks.
Idaho is as the start of the fourth week of a phased re-opening. New cases have been steady in the couple of dozen range until yesterday when it jumped to nearly one hundred. Story is a viral spread at a food processing plant in Twin Falls. Like LucKY2b I have noticed a relaxation of masking among the population that is probably
not justified.
I suppose I should target the July 28th mile time trial. I figure if Charlie can man-up to a solo 800m, film, and post it, “well, what’s your excuse Reid?”
Have a good Memorial Day, and best health to all.
Igy
KP thanks for the vote of confidence re sub 2:30. I am very interested in following your workouts and out come. If you replicate the 95% goals from age 55 that would be Great! The 200/600 for 800 is pretty much stuck in my head;) Thanks for posting the workout
CM nice 15k good luck with the BB TT sub 40 attempt this weekend. Great idea.
MF Thanks for the prop . Honestly I probably would have not kept running without your sub 6 at 60 goal. That race was my favorite this go round;) LOL! The Oval who came up with that!
Well my week was good but moving on. Recovery from the TT went well. The 800 is intense like the life of a repo man but recovery much quicker no aches no pains well just a bit.
Next up is same old same old I did add a few minutes to my slogs but sticking with low lactate training as I feel really good and am running well for me.
I will do some type of mini peak for a 64 BDay 800 sub 2:30 attempt. Maybe 4 or 5 weeks with some weekly hard stuff. It don't take much to get me maxed out.
