Thanks alf for bumping the thread, sounds like you’ve got a long range plan. Do you plan to just keep it steady? Ramp it up? Take some easier weeks?
Also, I inadvertently ignored Charlie and GeezerGuy last week while I fumbled (badly) over the topic alf posted. So Charlie, glad to hear the GOrun are working for you. I’d be curious what specifically you like about them. Also, I’m curious how you've chosen what distance you can safely handle? BTW, I, too, am a carbaholic….I especially crave chips and salsa.....but I'm working on that.
GeezerGuy, welcome to the thread. We do have a few in their 60’s that post fairly regularly. Training “seriously” past age 50 is certainly the challenge before us; I never feel like I can get past the “semi-seriously” stage, as life constraints or some kind of niggle always seems to hold me back. The things that we used to do, don’t quite work as well, and the body just doesn’t adapt to stress or overloading as it did back in our teens and 20’s.
With that, I’ll start my usual demarcation for the week.

Week 64
*************************
I offer salutations from the mid-south, where we’ve had much nicer weather this week. It made it so much easier to run in the afternoons. I’ve nothing remarkable to report this week, but it’s nice have my mileage back in the mid 40’s range. I managed 46.5 miles on 7 days. The log reads as such:
Sun: 8 easy
Mon: 5 easy on grass
Tue: 5 slow, but w/backpack
Wed: 7 w/10x1-lap (86s -> 78s), w/1/2-lap rec (the funky 4 laps = 1500m...with a small hill...track)
Thu: 7 w/2km in 7:30
Fri: 8.2 easy w/3 mile surge in middle@6:48 pace
Sat: 6.3 Fartlek 7 harder sections varying lengths and rests. Overall average pace: 6:50
It felt like a pretty solid week. Not the hardest of workouts, but I think a decent mix of paces and durations. I’ll try to get a long run in this coming week, but now that school is back in full swing, never quite sure how things will pan out with the new teaching schedule. This upcoming weekend, my wife and I will be heading down to Gatlinburg, TN. We’re celebrating our 30th a bit ahead of schedule (Sept. 4th is the true date), as I’ve got busy Fridays on the subsequent weeks all the way through September. Two points about that: i) I may or may not be able to bump the thread next Sunday, and ii) Gatlinburg is one hilly place, so I’ll be getting in some serious hills next weekend….but I have to be careful not to overdo it, otherwise my wife won’t be too happy. Haha.
OK----Hope these have been good days for you all. It’s always a pleasure to read your posts, and I appreciate everything that you share.
Cheers!
