Dhaaga: Congrats on the race!
Charlie: Wow, 19:42 “tempo” 5K. 82.4% age grade!
3 wishes: 1) Pick a time and stick to it, 2) Term limits for Congress, and 3) You need to pass a test and get a license to use the internet.
Tue = 4 on TM with 3 at 7;16, 7:11, 7:04 with 5 min rest between miles
Thr = 4 miles on road with 3 @ 7:55 pace, sore legs
Sat = 4 miles on road with 3 @ 7:35 pace, sore legs
Sun = 4 miles easy, rails-to-trails cinder
This is week #2 of phase 2 training. The only difference is the Thursday run is now a true tempo instead of an easy day. It’s hard slowing down just a little, but still keeping my foot on the gas a bit. But it also makes the run fun and I feel like I’m getting a good workout without killing it.
Sat I was sore, kinda tired, and felt like I had this sinus thing going on. Despite all that I ran almost 15 seconds faster than my last race. Clearly, phase two is doing something.
My next race is a 5K next Sat the 16th. Since I’ll make Thr easy I guess race weeks will end up being my designated “down” week. You could argue that such wimpy miles don’t need any kind of period change, but maybe it’s not such a bad idea to stay fresh.
And if I ever get to phase 3, that will be adding miles on Sunday’s. I have to remind myself that my goal is not to put everything out there and go for it. Nor is it to be a “fitness jogger” or whatever term is appropriate. I honestly believe there is an in-between that most runners can achieve: A Goldilocks-Zone, as it were, where we optimize our fitness and approach what I’d like to call a “natural state” of health.
We are all guilty of gravitating to the extremes. There IS a middle way.
At the moment, even though my legs are sore, they are sore in the good way. The runs feel smooth and I feel solid all over. I’m really enjoying running now!
Have a good week folks!
